NIS 2012 won't install, unintalls N Ghost 14, starts ms installer package for Ghost

Hello Norton community,

I have an installation problem with NIS 2012 under Win XP SP3+

I received a message that read - You have exceeded the number of allowable installations.

Seemed strange as I only have three machines.

Anyhow I needed NIS 2012 as it suits me very well, so I bought another retail box of 2012.

Installation was going well until Norton Ghost 14 icons and programs disappeared one by one.

It was at the stage where NIS 2012 said it was removing Norton files, which I thought, that's fair enough,

its just cleaning up the old NIS 2012 files.

But it seemed to be cleaning up Norton Ghost files as well.

Then a Microsoft Installer package (.msi) appears and says that it is installing Norton Ghost 14, very strange,

like a tug of war, installing and uninstalling at the same time.

So the ms installer comes back with an error message including an error number and three options,

continue, abort, cancel, I think they were.

Clicking cancel started the msi package again and this loop continued two or three times until the cancel button

eventually worked.

Then NIS 2012 said restart which I did.

When I return to the log-on screen, all of my account icons are default Windows chess pieces.

Upon seeing the desktop and allowing things to settle down, There is no Norton Internet Security 2012 and there

is no Norton Ghost 14 to be found.

So I boot from the Ghost DVD and restore the hard drive image from WD 2TB USB2 drive.

I reinstall NIS 2012 and the same thing happens again.

I have tried three installations and all have failed, which raises another question of - is it 3 PCs or 3 installations, meaning

any number of reinstalls on each PC

I have restored the drive image three times at three hours each.

Norton Internet Security 2012 won't install and it deletes (apparently) other programs and has a wrestle with

Windows XP SP3+

Has anyone got any ideas what can fix this.

Kind regards

Pluton
