Last night after a BSOD crash; and reboot; Norton IS 2012 loads; but it doesn't (yes I know hard to explain). When the BSOD 1st happened and the computer reboooted; Norton loaded and I was seeing the box that stated Norton was trying to fix e-mail protection; but it kept failing to do so. Also it showed in gadets that I'm secure; but I don't see any of the icons that are normally in the Norton box.
Then when going to the start menu and trying to run NIS from there; it would just sorta hang; hard drive flashes like mad but nothing else happened.
So I used the norton removal tool to remove NIS and then reinstalled NIS 2012. It states that it has been installed sucessfully; and I get a green box in gadets and I get an explore button on the screen. I click on the explore button and nothing happens. Again the Hard drive light goes flashy flashy for about a minute and then stops and nothing else happens. Then after a few minutes I get a notice that the Norton firewall is turned off. Rinse and repeat the removal/reinstall a few times and still the same problem.
I get online with chat tech support and he does the same steps a few times and starts and stops some services. Still having the same issue; can't start NIS and it gets to the point it just tells me that I'm not secure. After about an hour of tech support trying to fix it; he suggests I let his supervior take a look. At this point it was pushing midnight and I get up early each morning for work; so I told him to keep the ticket open and I'll try again today.
Has anyone else ran into this? I almost think that somehow the registery is messed up and even though we are uninstalling NIS there are still hooks that are there and this hooks are what are causing it to not install properly.
Right now; since the new PC is less then a week old; my thinking right now is to just do a clean install of Windows 7; reinstall the MB and Graphics card drivers; do windows update and then try to reinstall NIS 2012 to see if the clean install fixes the problem.
