NIS 2013 has damaged other programs on my computer

I ran NIS 2012 with no problems whatsoever.  I decided to do the free update to the 2013 version but now wish that I hadn't.  After the upgrade my computer was so slow at carrying out tasks and some of my programs wouldn't open so I decided to do a system restore to hopefully fix the problem.  Once restored I had to reinstall NIS 2012 and that all worked fine.  Now going through all my programs I find there are 30 of them which will no longer work.  I get various reasons for them with the following being just a few:

1.  Application error - the system cannot find the path specified.  Line 0

2.  This installation of this application is damaged.  Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance.

3.  Failed to import site module.  No module named site [Error code 1]

4.  The program was not installed correctly.  A path is missing.  Please reinstall the program.

5.  Photoshop Elements cannot start or continue because of missing file(s).  Please reinstall.

6.  Access violation

7.  Initialization failed, please reinstall.  Code=003

There are others!  All these programs worked fine before upgrading to 2013 and then going back to 2012.

I'm thinking of putting my computer back to factory settings as it seems to be so mixed up but is there another way round all these problems?  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Thanks for any help.
