NIS 2013 Installer in a loop.

This is a long saga but I’ll start with the ending to see if it can be solved.  My NIS 2013 installation is in a loop.  At the beginning it runs a check for previous Norton products and runs an uninstall/removal program.  (Not sure which, are they both the same?)  That returns with an error.  When I reboot the NIS install program takes over and runs again, with the same results of course!  There is a link on the error page to the Norton Technical Support Web site.  However, since I don’t have any mal-ware protection I have disconnected that computer from the internet and am not comfortable putting it back on until it is protected.

1)Will my computer be susceptible to mal-ware if I go online for several hours to the Norton Technical Support Web site without an operating antivirus/security program?

2)Is there a manual removal procedure for NIS 2013 and its installer?  (I found one on a non-Norton site but it is out of date so it may not work correctly with 2013.)

3)How is the installer automatically running when I reboot?  I don’t see it in msconfig or start programs.  Where should I look?  I would like it not to start up automatically.

Thanks,

Mike
