Been with support on this twice now without a fix, despite assurances it will not happen again.
NIS will show green and the first alert something is wrong is when I notice a download, such as a update is not scanned. Windows may or may not issue a flag that NIS is not working.
Settings is nonfunctional when this happens and the system will not scan. Parts of the software can be accessed, but quick scan and full system scan fail to work. This started right after installing Dragon Naturally speaking, but turning that software off (and processes) does not fix the problem. Running power eraser as two different techs did, seems to stop the issue until the next time; however, power eraser says it did not find anything. This also begin about the same time as some windows 8 updates and yes I know windows 8 is the first red light here, but other companies seem to have their issues fixed.
I also now and then still have windows flag that the software is not working when it actually is and the past fix of turning off smart updates, updating, rebooting, turning smart updates back on, updating and again rebooting does not work all the time when that happens.
The bottom line here is NIS is showing green but it is not. A recent patch has been applied.
Has anybody else run into this and if so have you been given a fix?
