NIS 2013 IS RUNNING IN BACKGROUND, BUT WILL NOT OPEN FROM SYS TRAY OR PROGRAM MANAGER.

Configuration; NIS 2013 running in Windows 7 professional X 64.

This product has been running all year faithfully and without error. I checked for a new version yesterday and saw it was available and downloaded and installed it. Upon seeing a change to the Norton identity safe feature that I disliked I uninstalled the new version using the Norton removal tool and reinstalled the 2013 version. After this upgrade, remove, reinstall cycle Norton Internet security would no longer open from the system tray icon or from program manager. Norton is running in the background and I can run live update and run a quick scan from the system tray icon. But when I click open Internet security the control panel pops open and remains for several seconds and then disappears. After that it will never open again, unless I reboot the computer and attempt to open Norton Internet security again whereupon the control panel opens remains for a few seconds and then disappears. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Norton Internet security 2013 from from the disc I have several times, checked for disk errors and ran system file Checker along with the brute force malware program you suggest one runs in this circumstance. It comes up clean. Internet searches for the same problem have come up dry.  . I also ran the upgrade again letting that install the latest version, and rebooting. No change, the Norton control panel will open once, remain for several seconds, and then disappear, and will never open again.

I have not installed the bootable recovery tool yet and attempted that fix. Before I chose that I thought I would write you for any ideas.  Got any ?
