NIS (21,.2.0.38) on 64bit Windows 8.1

I have been using NIS on my 64bit WIndows 8.1 for several months and its been working ok. but last week its ability to scan just stopped working (without any visible errormessage / explanation). and nothing happens when I try to run. 

after a few days I reinstalled NIS, and it seemed to work for a couple of days, but now I have the same problem again.

First, try F4E's suggestion.  If that doesn't work, I suggest you next try turning off something in Windows 8/8.1 called Fast Startup.

After you have turned off Fast Startup, shut down (don't restart) your computer for a full minute.  Then turn it back on (cold boot) and check to see whether Norton is working properly now.

Good point from SOJ, mange27. Particularly if they're running in real time.
