NIS 5 for Mac has stopped functioning

Greetings,

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) running Mac OS X 10.7.3 with Norton Internet Security 5 for Mac. I just reinstalled Mac OS X 10.7.3 on the MacBook Pro via a disc image.

After installing and updating Norton Internet Security 5 the MacBook Pro seems to function properly. However, after shutting the MacBook Pro down for an hour the wired and wireless network connections do not function (local and Internet), Norton Firewill does not start citing an error message that says to reinstall Norton Internet Security 5, Norton Antivirus starts disabled (but can be enabled), and LiveUpdate returns an error (likely due to the wired or wireless network connection not functioning).

I uninstalled and attempted to reinstall Norton Internet Security 5 with the same results. The software functions properly until the MacBook Pro is shutdown for about an hour. The software seems to function properly when the MacBook Pro is restarted but not after shutting down.

Any ideas?

Macattack,

one more thing in regards to NAV.

When you say NAV is "disabled" does that include Manual Scanning, or are only the Automatic Protection features (Auto Scan and Idle Time Scan) disabled?

Thanks

David

David,

1. Yes, both wired and wireless network connections have connectivity (local and Internet) during that time (Restarting but not when shuting down). I should clarify that when I lose network connectivity after shutting down my MacBook Pro, I am still connected to my router, and I am receiving an IP address. It is as if a firewill is blocking my network access. However, I cannot confirm this as I cannot open my Norton Firewall settings. Apple's firewall remains off, too.

2. It would appear that there are several crash logs I can provide. I have attached a few of them to my post.

3. That is correct. Enabling Norton Antivirus does not correct the issue with Norton Firewall, network connectivity, or LiveUpdate. Only the automatic scanning functions appear to be disabled. I am able to perform manual scans.

Thanks

One thing I noticed is you mentioned the Apple firewall is disabled, which is recommended when using NPF.  The crashes you attached are within Deepsight.  Unfortunately I don't know enough to say whether they are related to your issues.

Disabling Norton DeepSight Community Download and Norton DeepSight Community Submission within Norton Firewall seems to have corrected the issue. I have been using the MacBook Pro on and off for the past couple of days without any issues.

Hello Macattack,

our development team has looked at the info you've provided and we believe that the SymRegistry has somehow become corrupt.

We'd appreciate it if you could send us some additional info.

Would you please send us the contents of  /Library/Application Support/Symantec/Registry folder? If you right click (or control click) on that folder ("Registry) and select the "Archive" option that'll create a zip file that you can send us.

Thanks for your assistance with this. We look forward to hearing from you.

David

P.S. You'll need to send the .zip file via my private email address which I've sent you in a separate message.
