Nis Add-on Pack 3.1

Hi everyone,

yesterday on my XP Sp2 pc Liveupdate downloaded an upgrade to add-on pack ver 3.1.0. Today on my Vista 32 bit Premium pc Liveupdate doesn't find this update. The question is: update only to XP or error in Liveupdate on Vista?

Thanks in advance for replies.

There is a problem with my Liveupdate on Vista? Is it possible to clean live update cache? Please, give me a reply.

PS: excuse my bad English, I'm Italian.

Try to run LU several times. Maybe they publishing the update like the 16.1 patch for NAV/NIS (so they don't allow every users to download the update at the same time, they making a managed update process). So you will have the update for the otherone too.

By the way is 16.1 update on your Vista PC?

I ran LU 12 times in 2 days. But nothing happened.

Yes, I Have 16.1 update installed.

I don't know what happened... I understand that Symantec make a "managed update process"  but 2 days.... I think that maybe LU cache is in error....

On both my Vista SP1 and XP-SP3 system, the NIS 2009 Add-On pack version is 3.1.0.7.  Is this what you have?  I don’t know if that is the latest, but it is the same on my two systems.  Under Help>About on the Norton main window.

Interesting.... Don't know why you didn't get the update, but here's a solution:

Donwload the new (3.1) installer from here: http://www.symantec.com/norton/add-on-pack

Uninstall the previous one

Install the new one

I know it's not the best solution for that, but I'm sure it will work ;) :D :D

I wonder if the change in that Add-On Pack is in the AntiSpam function? Since AntiSpam is built into NIS2009 (different to the 2008) it would not be needed -- only if the changes were in Parental Controls or Privacy Controls.

Are you saying in a later message that it does not matter what you try to download but it is deleted? Not just this specific Norton File?

I think the only changed thing in it is the compatibility with the 16.1 engine. If you want to install AOP 3.0 over 16.1 the setup fails. With 3.1 it works fine…

Yet Axios says he can't install it.

Hi Everyone,

This is what norton did with mine to get it to install:

Open up the main product> Settings (then enter your password IF you have one)> Misallaneous Settings> Norton Product Tamper Protection

Move it to off.

Open up Internet Exploror, and go to the followin web page:

http://www.symantec.com/norton/add-on-pack

DO NOT CLICK SAVE BUT CLICK ON RUN! This will save it to the temp files, and there will be a short cut that is placed on your desktop once the first part has downloaded.  Once you have downloaded the first part of the set up, click on Install Norton Add-On Pack that is found on your desktop when the the second part is complete (this will download the second part of the it (the full parental control package) this is about 31.25MB big).

Once this has downloaded sucessfully, it should automatically install, you will have pop up that comes up making sure that you want to do it, click on Agree and Accept.  Once this is fully installed you will  HAVE TO reboot so it intergrates into NIS 2009.

Once you have done all the above, there are so far 2 updates for it, the first one I cannot remember what its for, but the second one is for the URL updates (so it can block it)

To set it up:

Open the main window of NIS> Settings> Parental & Privacey Controls> Switch on the Parental Control, you will be promted to enter a new password (make this something that you will remember).  Click on Manage User Group.

Selete the group that you want to configure.  The ones with TICKS NEXT TO IT means that it will be BLOCKED.

Once you have done all you needed to do, the you can click on close. Add your users (if you have logins etc) and place them into groups that you want them in, then click  on apply> Done> Ok.

You do need to do a complete update before anything can take effect (as I have found)

Many thanks for posting the steps used to get yours working .....

I don't have the problem myself since I only use the AntiSpam and that is built into NIS2009.

From his message I get, that he has problems with the automatic live update, not with the manual installation.

Solved. I downloaded the setup file and without disable tamper protection I run the aop 3.1 exe.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
