I purchased a 3 pack of NIS to cover our two desktops and my netbook. I loaded the desktops and then downloaded NIS netbook edition to the netbook - invalid key... When I looked I was suprised to find that they are marketed as two separate products - who has three netbooks? As it stands I'm running NIS on my netbook - seems to work fine, but some of the NIS netbook features would be nice to have. I really think they should be interchangable. Any thoughts?
MIght be a problem if the netbook is 64b and the others are 32b.
In that case you need to download the 64b version from norton.com.
That's what I needed to do.
I am a firm disbeliever in the "netbook edition".
No thanks. The regular is good enough for me.
Nothing prevents the regular edition from running on a netbook, I'm doing it.
The Symantec marketing droids had too much time on their hands.
Once upon a time Norton was known for taking huge resources away from your computer. No more.

Hi Dougt,
You can read up on the differences between the regular NIS and the NIS Netbook edition over here:
You can also read this thread over here:
As you mentioned, the product keys for regular NIS and NIS Netbook edition are very unfortunately not interchangeable; there has been a discussion among posters about this, and it would definitely be far more practical and straightforward if one key could be used for both NIS types :-)
Yaso,
Thanks for the very informative reply. From your links I learned that I probably should have bought the 3 pack of NIS netbook edition and run it on the two desktops and my netbook. Same functionality, better performance, and the battery saver I'd like to have on the netbook. Not intuitive obvious, but it looks like the best solution.
Thanks again,
Dougt
Hi DougT,
Glad you found the information helpful. You should be able to install the regular NIS on your netbook - the interface size might be different, though, and you won't have the NIS Netbook-specific features such as battery-saver.
Hello Dougt
If you recently bought the 3 pc version of NIS, perhaps you can exchange it for the 3 pack NIS netbook version depending if you purchased it from Symantec.
As floplot said, you could ask for a refund; you can read more over here about refunds:
You would have to uninstall NIS from your desktops before installing NIS Netbook Edition.
If you decide to ask for a refund, then you can contact Symantec Customer Support at the link below. You can chat with them for free:
