My Norton Internet Security is no longer working properly. It is showing the red cross sign that something is wrong. When I check the settings, various anti-spyware and anti-virus settings have been ghosted to off. I cannot correct these settings. I am also not able to run virus scans. After some time, the laptop hits a blue screen.
I am operating a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop, operating on theVistaoperating system.
When I was able once to get Norton LiveUpdate to work, “Check for updates” completed, “Download updates” completed but “Process updates” failed to complete, and a blue screen followed.
Norton “One Click Support” automatically opens. One error message reads: “An error has occurred with Norton Internet Security. Error: 3048,1” It advises that it is downloading a fix but a blue screen always kicks in before the fix is completed. On another occasion, it read: “Error: 3047,58” This time I was able to catch much of the following blue screen message: “KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR STOP: 0x0000007A (0xC0601B60, 0xC000000E, 0x0F748884, 0xC036C000)”
I downloaded the “Norton Power Eraser” and no risks were found.
I downloaded off the Norton website the latest definitions. This successfully reset the Norton Internet Security settings. This allowed me then to run a “Quick Scan” which only showed tracking cookies. I started the “Full Scan” but the laptop does not stay operational long enough to complete before a blue screen kicks in and the laptop reboots.
Unfortunately, the laptop does not stay operational long enough to allow me to create a Norton bootable disk. If I had been able to, I would have tried this way of getting the laptop operational again. Can a Norton bootable disk be posted to me?
I would appreciate some advice as to what to try next. Many thanks.
