NIS AntiSpam hogs foreground / focus when processing spam tagged in inbox

I've recently started using NIS on XP SP3. I've found several of the behaviors of the AntiSpam function to be intrusive and annoying. The most intrusive and annoying behavior occurs when I've selected several messages in my Outlook Express inbox and selected Norton AntiSpam | This is Spam. The more messages you've selected, the more annoying this is. The Norton AntiSpam dialog box that comes up containing the Processing progress bar takes the focus and holds onto it until it's done, and processing takes an unreasonably long time. You cannot click elsewhere in the Outlook Express window to shift the focus, and if you switch to a different app, AntiSpam takes back the focus each time it finishes processing a message, so there's no point in even trying to do anything else until AntiSpam plods throught whatever it's doing and releases its hold on your system.

I see no reason for the Processing dialog box to be displayed at all, and it seems utterly ridiculous that the processing isn't done as a background process so that the focus is released back to the user immediately upon selection of This is Spam. Can anything be done about this other than turning off AntiSpam and installing some other antispam program that works without taking over everything?
