I have the latest version of NIS on my Windows 7 64-bit PC - and my machine locks up and doesnt return, when the machine is idle. I did some research and found that other users have experience the same issue and that you can disable all idle time tasks that norton does. I tried that and it seemed to work for awhile, but to my suprise the problem persisted - I can still see the little box that pops up and says norton is running idle time tasks, and then the machine halts.
Ive had to restart my machine 9 out of 10 times with a hard reset during screensaver/idle times because of this problem. Ive been using Norton for years, and this all started happening after I got a new machine from 32 bit to 64 bit and at this point I am thinking about switching anti-virus softwares because of this problem.
But I would like to see if I can get some help here first.

Welcome,
I'm running w7x64 and NIS2012 with all of the updates downloaded and installed. BUT, I'm not having your problem. Please try this - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20110217171332EN run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool and see if that doesn't fix the problem. It sounds like something got misplaced in the install and isn't enough to crash everything.
Thanks for the response. I received it right after you first posted it - but waited to respond because I wanted to try your suggestion first - which seems to have worked. Surprisingly my pc is running alot quicker and havent run into any issues yet. Im going to give it about a month of continous use before I can say this was the solution. I did run into something earlier where itunes was playing in the music while the computer was idle and i saw the norton idle tasks running (little box that comes up) and itunes started freezing. But it smoothed out later.
Thanks again for your reply, ill keep you posted if I run into anything. But for now I will say that that was the solution.
Just installed NIS 12 yesterday. Running with Windows 7 home premium, 2g ram. Computer is SLOW, Freezing frequently, running with high CPU usage. Having to shut down with power button.
Ohter issues:
Installed NIS 11 on 2/11 but required renewal within < 6m.
Renewal was supposed to be $49, but was $59 on Norton website
Bought NIS12 @ costco w3ith N utilities. Utilites cannot be activated with product key.
Can't believe I paid for all these issues/problems!!!!!!
Solution to main issue before i get refund fron costco?
Also N Confidential plug in keeps crashing in google chrome. read somewhere on forum to disable tool bar. A not very elegant solution - this is the best N can do?
