It would be great if NIS:
1). could be configured to automatically switch settings (e.g., default printer, shared drives, enable/disable printer / internet connection sharing, etc.) based upon the network it is connected to.
2). Manage the network settings. For example, I should be able to designate a network as "Home", "Office", etc., and configure both wired and wireless settings. So for example, if I'm on my "Home" network, and I uplug the ethernet cable, NIS should use the wireless settings for "Home" and automatically re-connect.
Further, NIS should include generic network types (e.g., Home, Office/Business, Public) with recommended security settings based upon best practices that could be associated with my #2 suggestion above.
As people connect in more locations (e.g., home, starbucks, etc.), our computers should be able to handle the job of noticing what network we are connected to and automatically change settings to match the network.
