NIS downloaded from Norton Website (without a CD) does not affect virus, according to HP Support.

I apologize if this issue has already been addressed.

NIS Netbook Edition Version 18.5.0.125 downloaded from Norton Website without a CD for installation apparently does not affect a particular virus, according to HP Support.  They say I need a disc patch developed by Norton and HP, according to HP Support, at an additional cost not covered by either HP Support or Norton Support.  I find this to be rather strange, in that HP Support says not even performing a system recovery will remove this virus.  They say the virus is embedded in the hidden files, and is thus not affected by performing a system recovery to the original state of the PC.  I update and scan NIS daily, and download Windows Updates every 2nd Tuesday of the month and perform additional update checks thereafter.

Here are the symptoms:

  • While booting up my HP Pavilion dv7t Entertainment PC (running Windows Vista, and using NIS Netbook Edition Version 18.5.0.125), the cursor will freeze up if I don't move it around within the first couple of minutes.  I need to reboot the PC in order to make it function properly.

Thank you for your advice and support!
