hi to all. i have this problem. i have latest build of Norton Internet security 2014 in Windows 8.1.
in random times the Nis.exe it pop ups this error:
Nis.exe - Application Error The exception unknown software exception (0x40000015) occurred in the application at location 0x73eed6fd. Click on OK to terminate the program.
if i press ok and move the mouse over icon of NIS 2014 in taskbar Norton Internet Security disables from taskbar and not working.
if i press ok and not move the mouse over the NIS 2014 icon in taskbar it disables and enables again. but the error keeps continuing until i restart my pc.
my system is:
Windows 8.1 Pro
intel cpu i7 at 2.30Ghz
6 GB ram
ssd intel for windows 8.1.
also i have these programs installed:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.75
TuneUp Utilities 2014 build 14.0.1000.221
Windows 8 Manager 2.0.1
Microsoft Office 2013
and all Windows 8.1 updates.
why i have this error? is there any conflict with above programs?
but i dont think its a conflict because this happens now for about 5-7 days.
i already made a clean install of Windows 8.1 and all programs again but after a litlle use and surfing in internet i get this error again. i have to say but this error doesnt happen all the times. it happens lets say for 1 hour of use and after that no error for
If malwarebytes is the full version, the one with the active scanner, then there is a conflict. Two active scanners on a single system will not increase protection. The minimal problem is reduced protection as things can slip through while the scanners are dueling. The worst is system crashes. All between are also possible, depending on the threat, or activity that is seen as a threat.
i always have disable the scanner from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. its the full version but i use it only to scan manual. i'm sure that there is no conflict from this. i think the developers should look the error codes i posted and find where is the problem and fix it.
Hi, djspiros. That error can sometimes indicate a driver problem. You may want to check your Windows installation, via the scannow option.
Using Command Prompt with Administrator privileges, type in the Run box sfc /scannow {noting the space after sfc} and let it check and attempt to repair any corrupted system files.
If after this you still have the error, you could try a reinstall using the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool, which will uninstall your product and replace it with a clean version.
Also you may try to download latest version of norton and do a clean install(Uninstall -> clean junk files using s/w like ccleaner -> shutdown -> cold boot system -> install new copy of nis). Keep us posted.
I noticed that you reported a similar problem with NIS 20.x (2013) turning off here back in Aug 2013. Did you upgrade to NIS 21.x (2014) by installing over your previous NIS installation? Have you ever attempted a clean reinstall of NIS using the Norton Removal Tool to first wipe NIS off your system and then reinstall your software? I also noticed here that you were looking for a Greek version of the NIS installer, so could you please let us know what language version you're currently using for NIS and your Windows OS.
The only information I could find on software exception (0x40000015) on the Symantec site was in an old 2008 support article here for Symantec Endpoint Protection (Symantec's security software for large corporations), and the error was related to a large number of files accumulating in the quarantine. I doubt the problem with your NIS software is related, but just to be safe I would check your NIS quarantine history (History | Show | Quarantine) to see if any files have been added in the past week. It might also be advisable to run full system scans with both NIS and Malwarebytes to see if they can detect any malware on your computer before you attempt any reinstall of your NIS software.
If the Norton Remove and Reinstall (NRnR) tool suggested by F4E doesn't solve the problem and you want to try a clean reinstall of NIS with the Norton Removal Tool (NRT), post back and we'll provide step-by-step instructions. ------------ MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 * Firefox 26.0 * IE 9.0 * NIS 2013 v. 20.4.0.40 * MBAM PRO 1.75.0.1300 HP Pavilion dv6835ca, Intel Core2Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83 GHz, 3.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
ok let me clear to u what i have done. in clean Windows 8.1 install i install first NIS 2012. i setup the local identity safe and after this setup i update to latest build of NIS 2014 so to keep the local identity safe. Both versions are full ESD Greek installers.
i have made for a 3rd time a full clean Windows 8.1 setup and again all drivers and programs i use. but this time i didnt installed
TuneUp Utilities 2014 build 14.0.1000.221. this program makes some tweaks in Windows and programs so pc will work faster.
until now i dont have this NIS.exe error. maybe this error related to TuneUp Utilities 2014 14.0.1000.221?
maybe a conflict between NIS 2014 and TuneUp Utilities 2014???
i also checked and clear my NIS quarantine history. of course i have made full scans with NIS and Malwarebytes.
all clear.
i dont know how to reproduce this error. until now without TuneUp Utilities 2014 i have no errors.
i'll keep using it without TuneUp Utilities 2014 for 1-2 days and after that i'll install it again to see if the error related with a conflict with TuneUp Utilities.
i'll keep you informed if i see an error again!!! but my thoughts is that this NIS.exe has generally problems if you see in forum from other posts. not specifically my error but random problems.

Hi djspiros:
If you're referring to AVG's TuneUp Utilitieshere, Symantec employee Sym_KeN posted here that there was no conflict with NIS 2012 and TuneUp Utilities 2011, but I can't guarantee that is still true for newer versions of these programs. The Norton Tamper Product Protection feature should also prevent TuneUp Utilities from deleting any important NIS files or registry entries when you're cleaning your system. However, that doesn't exclude the possibility that one of the tweaks you made to your Windows OS with TuneUp Utilities (e.g., preventing a Windows service required by NIS from loading at startup) is causing the probem.
In the mean time, I'll wait to hear back from you just in case the TuneUp Utilities 2014 installtion is actually the cause of the error.
