We are experiencing an unusual problem with Norton Internet Security and an MS SQL Server (Express 2012) application on one of our workstations. All of the workstations on our small (six-user) network have the exact same version of NIS installed (standard default configuration in all cases). We have a business application program on our server that is based on Microsoft SQL Server. On every workstation but one, we are able to load and run the application. However, on one workstation only, I have to disable the Norton Smart Firewall on the workstation to run the application. If I don't do this, the application appears to time out trying to load the needed MS SQL files (an error message eventually shows up, indicating that). I checked the problem machine carefully, and its firewall rules and settings are exactly the same as the other workstations. I also reset the firewall on this machine and restored all NIS values to their default settings. No change, the same error continues to occur.
From a security standpoint, I don't want to permanently disable the NIS firewall on the workstation. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this problem? Thanks very much for any help you can offer.
