NIS for Mac

Hi.

I bought NIS for Mac last week.

I get tons of spinning color wheels and the computer just crawls since the installation.

Online support got on my iMac and reset my Firefox (without my persmission), reinstalled my Java and Flash plugs-ins and said that should fix my problem.

It did nothing.

LiveUpdate is current.

Suggestions?

My previous version of NAV for Mac was up for renewal. I saw that Norton now had a bundled product (NIS for Mac and NIS 2010) for both Mac and Windows-I run Bootcamp for non-Mac websites. I was told by a techie at CompUSA that I could install with no problem. I installed both products. I was running a free version of Antivirus on Windows. After installing I was unable to run liveupdate. I contacted Norton and was put in contact with a Tech. I ran the Norton uninstall software, reinstalled, and the Tech made some changes on my system. When i ran liveupdate, It showed no updates at this time. I ran this for a while with no updates. Recently i am getting a message showing that my NAV subscription is out of date and it asks me to renew. Not sure what to do at this point.

My Computer isn't downloading the product I bought and paid for. WHY NOT !!

No one has answered my first call for help.  WHY NOT !!

Will someone get back to me?  WHY NOT !!

If you want to ignore me then send me back my MONEY !!

(Repeating my response that was relevant to this thread...)

I'm not sure what would cause this, does the progress bar get stuck?

If you can follow the directions from this link and attach the SymantecInfo.txt file here, that may indicate if NAV is having some problem.

Another option is to disable scanning of compressed files, which should improve scan speed.

To BentleyBaker:

I'm sorry, but we can't solve a problem with downloading the product on this forum (or processing a refund, for that matter).  You'll need to go through Customer support:

""Safari can’t open the file “GatherSymantecInfo.zip” because “GatherSymantecInfo.zip” is still being downloaded.""

This is the message I get when I follow your suggestion. I'm still frustrated. Yes when I key in "Download" it starts the scan of the strip and doesn't go any further. It does the same thing when I Key "Try this".

Sorry, I lost part of my response when I copied and pasted.  That link was intended for scottroberg, in order to diagnose the slow scan issue.  Since you were unable to download the product in the first place, it won't be any help.  Please try Customer Support.

FOR WHAT. I thought that is what I'm doing. Norton was never like this before now. Maybe it would be better if they send me a disk as in years gone by.

Sorry for the confusion, and for your frustration.  We can answer technical questions on the forum, but we aren't equipped to deal with issues like problems downloading the product, subscriptions etc.  That's why I included the link to support (copied below), which does offer online help as one option.

I apparently got a bug on my system. I had a Norton Technician try and fix my automatic update. He said it was fixed. Apparently the last update wasn't downloaded to my system. I picked up a bug that sent out a number of emails to different email accounts. I manually downloaded the last update and started an entire system scan. It has been 2 days and the scan isn't done yet. Any way to speed this up?

There were some performance issues with Time Machine under older versions of NIS 5, but those have been corrected, so I suspect the problem is elsewhere.  First, which version of NIS are you running?

Hi.

Third support agent was completely off.

He told me I had installed two programs and only needed one.  He said NIS and Norton AV were two separate programs.

If fact, NIS 5 is one complete program and that's ALL I had installed.

He removed ALL my Norton stuff and reinstalled NIS 5 and it's exactly the same.

And slow.

Help.

Craig

5.4.1 (34)

OK, well you have the most current version.   Can you run the "Gather Support Information..." command from the Help Menu of NAV or one of the other NIS apps?  I'll send a private message with an address where you can send the resulting data.

I will do that.

Hi.

Norton MAC support is HORRIBLE.

My computer crawls since installing.

And the support agents are USELESS so far and don't know their software.

What a nightmare.

Hi,

comes the same issue, when you exclude the HDD - or - Time Capsle?

Hi.

Yes.

Turning Time Machine off does nothing to speed up the computer.
