I'm pretty certain that Norton does not support the 64 bit version of XP -- in fact that is a real odd-ball and hardly ever encountered.
I'd be interested to know what made it necessary to upgrade to such an unusual version?
But hang on since when a source says they don't support something it does not always mean it does not work but merely that you are on your own if it does not !
From the NIS System Requirements page
Operating Systems Supported Microsoft® Windows® XP (32-bit) Home/Professional/Tablet PC/Media Center (32-bit) with Service Pack 2 or later Microsoft Windows Vista® (32-bit and 64-bit) Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium/Business/Ultimate with Service Pack 1 or later Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) Starter/Home Basic/Home Premium/Professional/Ultimate Microsoft Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro (32-bit and 64-bit)
XP 64 bit is not noted as a supported option. I do not know any 64 bit XP users, so I am afraid you will be on your own with this one. Have you tried to run the installer? What was the result?
Yes i went through the requiments page i did not see XP 64 bit so i wrote this post hoping for some info.
when i try to install or download it says product does not support this OS.
I had to take an old Laptop for my work so had no choice on the upgrade..
Maybe someone from your work can recommend a solution for you.
sdmor,
I've heard from one of the Norton team that it's not even worth trying to get NIS working on XP 64 since the likely mismatches are too great .... even things like graphics drivers and so on.
Your best bet would be to get a copy of XP 32 bit and see if you can install that in place of the 64 bit version but whether the laptop maker has drivers and utilities for XP 32 bit would be the question.
I do support on laptops and pchardware elsewhere and I'd be really interested to know the make and model of the laptop so I could dig into it's history!
Microsoft doesn't even support XP 64 for any Office programs starting with Office 2010.
What does that tell you if Microsoft won't or can't get software to work on it?
It really was an oddball OS, even Vista 64 had much better 32bit compatibility right out of the box.
