I have used NIS for many years but this year my ISP started offering a competing Internet Security suite to it’s customers for free. The economy being what it is I had to take the offer. I unistalled NIS and thought that it was gone, but now when I try to run Word XP it creates a warning screen every time. The warning says that the macros are out of date and that I can enable them or disable them. I traced down the macros that are causing the problem and it is the NIS macros. I guess when I uninstalled NIS the Word macros got left behind. How can I get rid of these macros? I use word a lot and it is really irritating to have to click three times on the warnings that come up every time I use it. Please help.
I ran the Norton Uninstaller, but I am still getting the macro errors. I will insert 2 images of the error below. The first is of the macro error I get when running Word. The second is what is shown when I press the "More Info" button on the macro error.
I have tried everything and cannot fix this problem. Please help. I need to know how to delete macros manually. Where are they stored? What file type are they? There has to be a way to get rid of these macro left over from Norton products.
A couple of suggestions in the same order I would follow:
1. a. disconnect from the internet.
b. Remove all Norton security presently on your computer.
c. Re-Install the version of NIS that last used the "scan Word docs" setting, maybe sure you choose the same option, but DON'T choose the run Run Live Update option at the end.
d. Delay activation if given the option.
e. Uninstall that version of NIS.
f. Text Word to see if the problem is resolved.
g. If not, find the Norton Removal Tool for products prior to 2009 and try that.
h. If problem, still not resolved, move on to the next suggestion.
2. a. Open Office Word
b. Press Alt+F8
c. Click on Organizer
d. If Norton has a macro there, see if Word will let you delete it.
3. If this doesn't work, I have had to resort to the registry and find the appropriate entries. I did this for another artifact from different software. That was easy, because I was eliminating every last vestige of that piece of software. I don't recommend this with Norton. They will have to tell you what registry entries to remove and/or what files to delete.
Using the ATL+F8 option, I can see the macros. They appear to be from winfax. I uninstalled winfax when I ran the Norton uninstaller. The delete option is not availible, so I cannot delete them. For some reason I cannot reinstall winfax either. The setup refuses to run. What I a pain in the butt!
This usually indicates an incomplete uninstall. The artifacts prevent the reinstallation. Have you tried installing a more recent version of winfax or was the one you had the most recent. You should be able to get help finding which registry entries are winfax's.
You should also look for a more heavy duty registry cleaner (did someone recommend ccCleaner?). You can at least look at the entries they find and let the software delete. Most good registry cleaners will allow you to reverse the modifications; or you could backup your registry on your own.
Windows run>regedit
Drop the main menu
Select Export
Check the box for the whole registry
Save it to a place you can find and give it a name you will recognize.
(and avoid accidentally double-clicking it because it will want to reinstall itself and you would end up back where you started from).
What happens when you say install the certificate? or did you try to repair your Outlook Office?
Please run the NRT tool Norton Removal Tool
But keep in mind that it will delete every Norton product on your machine
