NIS problem?

Hi, hoping someone knows the answer to what's just happened to my PC or my Norton product.

About 10 minutes ago I got a red message from NIS (the latest 2013 version) which I'm sure said there was an error in the program. I haven't got a screenshot of it but I did click copy to clipboard and got this;

Norton Internet Security
20.1.1.2
Error: 3048, 3
Windows 7 Home Premium
7601.17944.amd64fre.win7sp1_gdr.120830-0333
Norton Autofix Results: 0 item(s)

I was prompted to download and run Norton Power Eraser which I did, then I got a message from the Power Eraser (see here - http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m609/danbish1/NIS.jpg). Nothing happened and the 'Fix' button was greyed out. Hovering the mouse ove the cloud icon I was told to do a 'cloud scan' for more info but when done this just said 'not enough info is available to determine if there is a fault'.

Can someone explain to me what just happened? Do I have a fault with Norton I need to worry about or not?

Thanks

EDIT

It's just happened again, about 20 minutes after the above and this time I've got a screenshot of the original message;

It was an upgrade from the 2012 version and I've only ever used Norton.

If you tried Power Eraser, the next recommendation from Norton is to reinstall your product. Because of issues with Identity Safe, it is best to reinstall the 2012 version, and if you want you can upgrade to 2013 again.

Download the Norton Removal Tool from here   www.norton.com/nrt

Download NIS 2012 from here   www.norton.com/nis12
If you use Identity Safe, backup/export your data. Export it twice...once in the DAT format and once in CSV format.
Uninstall your Norton product with Windows control panel.
Reboot.
Run the Norton Removal Tool.
Reboot.
Run the NIS 2012 installer
Run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.

If you had a local vault in 2012 before, try to log in again using the old password. If that does not work you can import the data from the backup you just made.

You might want to stay with the 2012 version for now as there are many issues people are having with 2013. You can keep an eye on these forums to see when these have been fixed.

I received this error while using Windows 7's Backup & Restore tool.   I was creating a system image when the error displayed.   This is a new computer built last week with a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro (64-bit) and a fresh install of NIS 20.1.1.2.

I ran power eraser but found nothing useful.

Have you run LiveUpdate manually until no updates are available?

I would still recommend the reinstall and keeping 2012 for now.

I admit that it's never happened again since that night (2 days ago now) and I'm hoping it was just a glitch but I'll still give it a shot and see what happens, thanks.

Well if it isn't broken, don't fix it.  Just keep an eye on things, and if you have trouble again, you can try the reinstall of 2012.

I already did by the time I saw your post. So far everything seems to be working fine.

Also, I had to upgrade to the 2013 version as my 2012 licence expired a couple of weeks ago.

EDIT

I don't bloody believe it! :smileymad:

Within 2 minutes of posting the above, it done it again. Except when the error messgae came up, instead of saying it couldn't fix it it said 'installation successful'.

What is going on???

If you follow my reinstall instructions above, it will leave you with the 2012 version. You do not have to upgrade.

There is a post somewhere that says a 2013 key may not work with a 2012 product. I think that if you do the reinstall of 2012, it may still work.

If you do try, please let us know how it works.

Also you should go into Settings - Computer - Updates and turn off Automatic Download of new version.
