NIS problems including trojan "explorer.exe"

NIS has been a disappointment because:                                        -------- xp home sp2, Dell 4600 ie7-------

1. The program will not update; message says cannot connect to server-when I know that my pc is connected to the internet. This leaves my computer unprotected for, as the program says: 28 days. Scary!

2.Went into chat room and was told that a trojan virus (which I am sure I have-very, very slow running pc) could only be handeled by Norton personnel at a cost of between $99 and $139. I expected NIS to at least warn me of the presence of the trojan which it did not. I am thinking why pay Norton $80 for a program that doesn't protect AND charges more money to do what I thought the Norton NIS would do! Sounds like a bait and switch setup.

3. Spent much time being spun around trying to find a email address to contact Norton. I got all kinds of FAQs catalogs but none fit my problems and ranging through them is very time consuming.

4.I have another problem with Norton-namely the utilities package. I ran the Registry cleaner and it found 1012 errors. After these were cleaned the pc would not boot.

5. I don't know if this is a virus but a program (?) called "MsMpEng.exe" uses a tremendous amout of cpu and when it is cancelled in Task Mgr it reappears again within minutes. Someone said it is the scanner from the Windows one on live program. It will not uninstall even though the rest of the program did.

Thanks in advance
