NIS scanning DownThemAll partial downloads kills the PC performance

I'm using DownThemAll in Firefox as a DL Mgr and whenever I download a very large file (eg Topaz Labs complete bundle - 752 MB) I have problems with NIS scanning the partial downloads and killing the performance of the machine, which causes the download to slow down and the machine to unusable.

This is not an issue with my bandwidth - I have plenty.  Nor the remote server.  Indeed, the download starts off running very nicely (Topaz download was 5-6 Mbit/s, with four segments downloading in parallel) until I get the first popup notification from NIS telling me it has scanned the partial download and it is fine.  At this point, everything starts to slow down and I get repeated messages from NIS about scanning the partial downloads.  The PC becomes very unresponsive and DownThemAll tells me the download speed has fallen off a cliff.     This continues with message after message from NIS unitl after a few minutes the download finally completes, NIS scans the end result, declares it safe and then everything works.

Is there any way to tell NIS to wait until the download is complete before trying to scan it?

I'm using NIS 2013 (20.4.0.40).
