NIS Smart Firewall issues

I've listened to other posts on allowing a application through Smart Firewall, and i tryed to let  the applications i use frequently through Smart Firewall but they still don't have access to the internet. Currently the only applications that can automatically get through the internet are Google Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer.

Any idea what i should do to fix this problem? Also im using Norton Internet Security 2013.

Unless you are a networking guru, you should just let the Smart Firewall do its thing. You should only ask about exceptions if you are having a problem with a specific problem.

I would suggest resetting your firewall and let Smart Firewall create new rules for your programs as you use them. Then if you have problems with a program, we can help you diagnose the issue here.

From the main NIS screen, click Settings - Network - Smart Firewall. Click on Configure beside Advanced Settings. Then click Reset beside Firewall Reset.
Restart your computer and use it as usual.

I,ve done what you said and the problem still occurred. I went to reset NIS Smart Firewall but hl2.exe source games and horizon.exe Xbox 360 data editor are blocked.

Have you checked with the game sites support to see if they have suggestions?

Your image shows you are in Offline Mode. Can you change that from your PC?

I will check with steam support. But it happends with alot of other applications i use besides the browsers.

I do not remember the details, but I had a lot of difficulty getting Steam set up on my Win 7 machine with NIS. It was some time ago now, so I cannot remember the details, but the information was on the Steam Support areas.

Hello

Please try and do what it says in this Norton support page. It is for an older NIS, but I think it should still apply. I am an online gamer, but I don't use Steam games. See if these instructions will help you.

Hi, My name is Damani and im 12, i love technology and gaming.

My NIS just expired today, and i thought that will fix the problem. Because it's going back to the original Windows Firewall :smileywink: but it turned out the same way that NIS did when i didnt reset Smart Firewall. Before i reseted Smart Firewall "Originally posted by peterweb to reset Smart Firewall" i customized Smart Firewall so were it will notify me when a program wanted to get access to the internet. So i allowed a program such as Horizon.exe to get past Smart Firewall. But the internet problem still occurred, it was really weird because all my browsers such as Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Firefox worked just fine! But again some of the plug-ins didnt work on firefox, the plug-in i first seen not working in Firefox was Unity Web Player. As i tryed to play CS Portable and tryed to go into USA servers it showed the following message wrote in my previous reply "Error: failed to connect to master server." So i looked at a different website for help because i though that this wasn't a Norton related problem. So i found something on the internet that said it was Internet Explorer issue, so i looked in internet explorer were they said to look in the LAN Settings-- they said disable a Proxy Server thing and it was already disabled and unchecked SO THAT WASN'T THE PROBLEM EITHER!?! I'am so frustrated right now because the only thing i can do it browse the internet all day, this was happening for over a month now and Windows Firewall is acting like NIS did when i didnt reset the Smart Firewall. It is saying "Windows Firewall needs your permission to allow this program to get access to the internet blah blah just like NIS used to say when i didn't reset Smart Firewall.

I'm just so stuck right now does anyone have this problem? Im using NIS 2013 i think im pretty much updated or close to updated. I don't even think your support page will work anymore because my NIS is was expired today, i think is is now a problem with the the original Windows Firewall now because NIS did something to make this hapend to all Firewalls. Sorry for making this so long.

                                                                           :           Greetings to Norton Community.

Thanks for trying to help anyway :smileyindifferent:

I'am using Windows 8 with an unknown Service Pack and NIS 2013 not exactly sure what the advanced version is. My NIS just expired today so its now a problem with Windows Firewall doing the same thing. I sent a message below if you didnt get it.

If the Windows firewall is behaving the same way as Norton was, it would seem you will have to get support from the gaming sites to get the firewall settings set up properly.

Let us know how you get on. It could be Win 8 incompatibility/teething pains for the game sites.

It turnes out the whole problem was my modem firewall. I remeber going to this IP 10.0.01 Comcast Arris modem and having the firewall settings set at "High" which blocked my games and other stuff.

It sounds like you are saying things are OK now. Glad to hear it.

We will be here if you need us again.

BTW I have changed the Solved post from the one of mine you marked, to your post that actually proved to be the solution.
