Here's the problem: I've been running NIS 2010 for the last few months without problems. I am running Windows 7 64 bit OS on a Pentium i7 860 2.80 Ghz CPU machine w/8Gb RAM. I am also running Norton Ghost 14.0 and Norton Utilities 14.0--neither of those Symantec products is giving me any trouble at the moment. Recently I noticed that the NIS tray icon was missing and I could not start the program from the start menu. However, Identity Safe and Antispam are both working and it appears that the system is being protected; I just can't start or configure the program. After reading all the posts in the previous thread and trying all the different suggestions, I still have the same problem. My latest efforts to resolve this are below.
Even though I am reluctant to uninstall all my Norton products because of the pain in reconfiguring all of them, I did just that last Saturday (completely removed NIS 2010, NU 14, Norton Ghost 14) and reinstalled them. I Ran Live Update and the hotfix for NIS and restarted about 3 times. The icon showed up on all three of these occasions and I could navigate, configure and use NIS without issue. I thought everything was good to go again but a few days ago I had to restart the computer and the NIS icon had disappeared yet again!!! After 3 days and numerous more restarts, I still cannot bring up the icon nor can I start the program from the start menu. ccsvchst *32 is running...
Something else that seems to be happening this time around though is about 2-3 minutes after trying to start NIS from the start menu, the Norton One Click Support screen pops up with the following:
Error: "8504,106" after I install my Norton 2010 product
It suggests a restart and to run live update. Well, that would be just dandy if I could ever start the program after a restart!!!
So I'm back to where I started and am asking again; does anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and as mentioned above I'm also running NU 14 and Ghost 14. Again, neither of the other two Norton products are giving me problems.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
