Normally the trial is for 15 days. So only have 9 days left
Stu,
I understand it is a limited trial, however, after 6 days I am receiving a expiration notice. It was supposed to be a 60 day trial according to my activation notice, and it lasted a 1/10th of that period, 6 days when I received the expiration notice. I don't have a problem with the program ending as I have another protection solution, my issue is that I was of the understanding that I was receiving 60 days of free NIS 2008 protection that gave me 1/10 th of the protection I thought I was goung to receive, 6 of 60 days. Really, not enough time to evaluate whether I want to use this or my existing soolution.
Thanks,
stevo1971
But is it telling you it is a limited version? Or is it telling you your trial is over?
hi stevo1971 - i haven't seen 60 day trial before - where did you come across it?
there was a problem with licensing that was supposed to be addressed by a utility found here - might give it a try.
mel
MelodicWynd,
Thanks for the suggestion, but the utility looks for a subscription number, and since I don't have one yet, no go.
The 60 trial came pre-installed, but not activated on the new Compaq laptop I bought at Best Buy last weekend.
Are you sure the program is not working? Symantec, like some others, start their early plea for you to “buy” a subscription. I’ve seen these messages 30 days before expiration date and they seem to come up everyday faithfully until you do. It is a competitive world out there and I suppose they feel it necessary. Somewhat like the old ‘shareware’ messages you can’t get rid of…
donahu1,
I don't think this is the case. I bought the laptop on Saturday, activated the trialware on Sunday, and the following Friday I received notice that my trial had ended, and I was no longer protected. I contacted Compaq/HP support, and they had no idea what could have occurred, but gave me a link to a 90 trial of NIS 2008 and NAV 2008 that was free, so they are offering an extra month, but I am upset that I had issues in the first place.
Aha
Sounds like for some reason the software was activated before.
Does the 90 day trial work?
Stu,
Honestly I haven't tried it yet as I was hoping I would fing a solution for the 60 day trial here, and then be able to use the 90 day trial before buying. 5 months of free protection would be sweet as Norton isn't exactly cheap since it has to be done every year.

Unfortunately I’m affraid it is not working that way

It would be sweet. If we could only keep un-installing the software and then putting trial-ware back in, we'd never need to buy a license. Unfortunately, it can't be done. Many have tried to do so. Some even go into the registry and remove keys, use norton removal tool, but to no avail. I suspect that if you activated a 15 day trial, when it runs out the only way you can use the software again is buy a license. Adding 60 day trials or 90 days trials will definitely NOT work.. Sorry...
Stu and Donahu1, Thank you both for your interst and replies to my postings. I have given up at this point and will be reverting to my alternative solution that I am using successfully on my desktop. Norton Systemworks 2002 which still gives me current AV definitions and AVG anti-spyware. I have never had any problems on my desktop using these two products, so I don't forsee any problems on my laptop. Plus it saves me $60 bucks a year as I am not overly impressed with the current Symantec/Norton protection products.
Thanks folks,
Steve
Wow 2002 is really old. Too old in my opinion.
Why don't you like the current 2008 versions? Current security is not only improved with just signatures. That's only a small part of it
Stu,
The current virus signatures do protect me from actual viruses. I agree if that was my only protection I would be compromised, but I am using current ad-ware/mal-ware/spy-ware by using current freeware products that have at least twice weekly updates to their definitions. Back in the Norton 2002 days viruses were the big worry, and since then we have had the other issues show up as security risks that I believe are covered by the freeware products I use at this point in time.
Steve
Ok
If you feel safe about it than please do use it.
I wouldn't do it if I were you
