I just wanted do do a manual live update for NIS 2014 (21.2.0.38) but not all updates can be installed. I get an error considering "Norton Web Protection Definitions" and "Norton Web Protection Definitions (hub)". When I click on "Get support" (don't know what it's called precisely since I'm using the German version) it says that no solution can be found.
Thanks for this reply. However I just tried updating Norton on another PC and the update process finished without any errors. Another problem I have with this PC is that when I google something no Norton icons appear next to the search results anymore which also works fine on the other PC. The only differene is that the PC I have these two problems with runs Windows 8.1 and the other one where everything works fine runs Windows 7 but I doubt that that's the reason.

Hi chris4565,
As there may have been some corruption of your NIS on that pc, I'd recommend that you run the Norton Removal and Reinstall tool which will get you a fresh installation. Here is the link:www.norton.com/nrnr
Before running it, please read the "Before you begin" section.
After running NRnR, run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as requested, until no updates are available. When finished reboot your system even if not prompted... it never hurts...
Let us know how things go.
P.S. Frankly, I don't know if the above will also fix the safe web icons' issue: Should they be still missing, please let us know which browser/s you use and with which one/s the problem occurs. Thanks,
Thanks. Now both updates got installed properly. Regarding the missing icons: They are still missing, but after the reinstallation of Norton Firefox said, that the toolbar is not compatible with version 29.0.1, so I guess I have to wait until I get the update to the new Norton/Toolbar version (I still have Norton version 21.2.0.38/toolbar version 2014.7.0.43).
I'm glad it worked and you were able to get the updates.
As the the missing icons, first of all, I don’t have Firefox on my machine, therefore what I’m about to say is on the basis of what I learn here in the Forums and which anyway applies to all browsers...
I see that you have version 2014.7.0.43 which was for Firefox 28… In fact, as per the above Announcement, the version for Firefox 29 is 2014.7.1.1.
After reinstalling NIS I believe you ran LiveUpdate manually until no more available, and that you rebooted as well? If after that, the toolbar didn’t update to v2014.7.1.1, it could be because Firefox 29 was updated before NIS was updated to be compatible with Firefox 29. In fact it is recommended to always update the Norton Product BEFORE updating the browser, otherwise it could happen that the new toolbar doesn't get installed.
Therefore, I think you should uninstall Firefox, make sure your NIS is fully updated (and I'd also reboot...) then reinstall Firefox.
And there we go again :-( I have this issue of not being able to do these two updates again. I ran the Norton Removal and Reinstall tool again and not even then it worked and on top of that the patch could't be applied (at first at least; I think it has been applied after another restart), because some driver could't be stopped so things are getting worse... I guess I have to reinstall Windows (I had a bluescreen a few days ago; maybe these two things have something to do with each other).

I'm sorry your are having the same issue again... Do you get any error code?
From your first post I understand you ran Autofix and that no solution could be found. This would confirm that it did find an issue but was unable to fix it. Could you please post a screenshot of the Autofix result? Here is how to post screenshots.
As to reinstalling Windows, I don't know if that would fix the issue so I'd let better-informed users to comment on this.
At this point, I think you should remove the "solved" from my earlier post so that the thread will appear still "unsolved". thus "inviting" other users to jump in. To do that, go to the post marked as "solution", click on Options at the top right of the post and select Not the Solution from the drop-down list.
I get the same problem sometimes and I'm on Windows 7. I think it's just a failure that happens sometimes. Running live update manually after a while will usually fix the problem. I don't understand everything on the screenshots, but I have had the web protection web definitions fail and then the hub will be installed also and then all is well again for a while. I don't think it's a major problem. The servers sometimes get overloaded or what ever and it gets fixed by itself.
I think the combination of things that this person is experiencing on his/her computer makes me suspect that it may be due to more than the occasional overloaded server, such as updates still failing to complete after reinstalling Norton, not experiencing this on his/her Win 7 machines, blue screen, etc. Either way, won't hurt to give it a try, turning Fast Startup off, that is.
I tried disabling Fast Boot but unfortunately the problem persists (I'm using Windows 8.1 Update 1; my other PC with Windows 7 has no problems at all with these updates). I will try the Intelligent Updater mentioned in the link above and see if it helps.
Did you do a complete shut down (not restart) of your computer for a full minute after you turned off Fast Startup?
No, I just restarted. So I just tried it but unfortunately it did not help. However I saw in the BIOS that "Fast Boot" is still enabled, but I disabled the Quick Startup-Option (don't know what it's called exactly in English) in the Windows Energy-Saving-Options. So is there a differene between these two options?
