NIS v20.2.1.22 completely blocks MS Outlook 2007 email functionality

I am using NIS v20.2.1.22 (I believe I got this version of NIS around August 2012 when I renewed my NIS) and since I got it, my Outlook 2007 email stopped working.

 

Immediately after the installation of the new version of NIS, I noticed that my Outlook 2007 email did not start up at all - the inbox & the rest of the folders are there but they do not update at all and once I try to select one of them, I see that Outlook is not responding at all. At this stage, it is just a matter of killing Outlook.exe from Task Manager...

 

Since I had no prior problems with Outlook 2007, I thought what could possibly have changed in my system - and of course, the only suspect I could think of was my recent NIS update.

 

I then went into the "Advanced" tile of NIS and disabled the "Email protection" (button is now red). Then, went back in Outlook 2007 and it worked absolutely fine.

 

So, bottomline, when "Email protection" is on, Outlook 2007 email does not work at all. When "Email protection" is off, it works fine.

 

Is it possible to have my Outlook 2007 email working perfectly with the NIS Email protection ON?

 

Just to rule out a few things: I do not plan to abandon Outlook for another email solution or upgrade to a newer version of Outlook.

 

Any assistance would be appreciated.
