Hi All,
As of the 21st of June the 'Get Windows 10' Application Icon (GWX Icon) has disappeared from my 3 Windows systems. After a number of conversations on the Microsoft forums where others are also reporting that GWX has disappeared, I received a tip from a user that indicated that the fault was with Norton's Security products. The recommendation was to uninstall NIS or NS until after the Windows 10 rollout.
Now many people say that the GWX Icon is unnecessary, but it actually provides important compatibility information regarding the Windows 10 update. I was using this info to better prepare my systems. However the GWX App will no longer run.
To verify this I have uninstalled Norton Internet Security on one of my systems and reverted to the default Windows Defender and Firewall. Sure enough, the GWX Icon reappeared and is functioning properly again. This occurs either with NIS v21.7.0.11 or NS v22.5.0.124.
Below is the Event Log data for the error encountered by GWX.exe:

Can anyone shed any light on why the Norton Security products are preventing the GWX app from running properly?
