So this last Friday night after work, I had noticed my personal Windows 8.1 machine at home hadn't performed a scan in over a week, so I tried running a manual scan and it would not scan....In the last year of my $80+ annual subscription fee for NIS, this is at least the 4th or 5th time this happened in the last year.
I tried the following:
1. Made sure Norton Live Update had latest updates installed - which it did
2. Turned off Windows Fast-Start boot, shutdown the system, and then powered up - no change, and NIS still would not scan at all.
3. Ran Windows update to see if there were new drivers, etc. for my system - and there were not - all drivers and other OS software was up to date.
4. Ran the NEP tool, and it found no infections or issues.
5. Ran the Norton support tool to see f there was a problem with the NIS install itself, and it found no issues with the software.
6. Proceeded to Norton Online Chat, who proceeded to tell me to do all of the above in steps 1-3 - I had informed them I had already tried those things - without fixing the issue, and the person then directed me to "run live update, to make sure you have the latest updates installed"....at that point I just terminated the chat out of disgust, and resumed my weekend.
So cut to Monday, and here I am at work - using 3 machines with the SAME version of NIS I use at home and guess what?
They will not perform a scan in any way shape or form...When you select the "Fix Now" button on the main NIS UI, it starts a quick scan and stops in about a millisecond every time.
How do we proceed here?
