You should try un-installing LiveUpdate then re-installing LiveUpdate.  To do this, type in the Search box something like: "Un-installing LiveUpdate"; when you want to re-install, just replace "un-install" with "Installing/Install LiveUpdate".

Unfortunately, the update frequency setting doesn’t apply for all update times. Because some security vectors change so rapidly, the content must be downloaded very frequently to ensure that you are protected. That content comes down every hour regardless of the setting. That content is also generally very small and quick to be downloaded.

Thanks for the explanation Reese.

No great hardship, I suppose.  It was just doing my head in trying to work out why a setting I was changing was having no effect whatsoever.

I guess ten seconds every hour is livable with.  Hopefully when my broadband is upgraded from 4 to 10Mb later this month, it'll drop even lower.

Thanks again for the reponse.

For background information

  1. Does that apply when you have LUD set to Interactive (wihich I may have set to Notify me) or only to the Automatic?

  2. Is it for NIS only or for N360 as well?

TIA

huwyngr, I don’t know a lot of the specifics on this issue. It first came up when N360 v1 was first released and I did some research into back then. This does apply to Norton 360 and Norton AntiVirus in addition to Norton Internet Security. Since this is a scheduling feature, I would expect it to only affect Automatic mode.

Reese,

Thanks for the background. I think my Norton 360 in VISTA is on automatic so it's not a bad idea to have it so frequently in these days.
