NIS2009 is a bit overprotective, it completely blocks an entire forum section at Wilders Security!

IE is more prone to viruses. XP Anti Virus 2008 is a very bad malware which you can get using IE. I highly recommend using Firefox. Just do your home work and you will see. As anyone over at Wilders what is more secure IE or Firefox.

I know about the whole IE versus Firefox debate...

I know that Firefox has many plugins like the NoScript plugin, the Ad-blocker plugin, etc...

I know that Firefox in some ways is more secure then IE, because less people use it, so it's less targeted by crackers...

I know that if you use Firefox without the 3rd party security plugins, it also has vulnerabilities and flaws just like IE...

I know that many people at Wilders Security are on the edge of borderline paranoia when it comes to computer security...

Please don't tell me to do my homework, the things you speak of I already know. Some of them I agree with, some of them I don't. I use the internet for my enjoyment. If I were to use the internet like some people at Wilders, then half the webpages are crippled, the other half simply don't work at all. Things like the Firefox NoScript plugin, classic HIPS products, Anti-Executable programs, etc. are all very nice, but in my opinion really take the enjoyment out of using my computer and the internet.

Firefox right out of the box is more secure then IE ever could be. Ad Blocker and No Sript just seal the envelope. Read this step #7.

I like IE7 and I'm gonna like IE8 even more. No need to post links to the Firefox website, I know it, I've been there, I've installed it. Also this thread is going offtopic, let's not turn it into a IE versus Firefox discussion.

Your posting old news from 07. Also Firefox is now version 3.03 which has addressed issues in 3.02 and 3.01. Posting Googles from 07 is not real life and up top date info. The reason I am saying use Firefox which is not being off topic cause it relates to your problem. You made a thread in here claiming NIS was screwing up links and web pages. Then you found outr it was actually Ad Muncher causing your problem. The only reason you need Ad Muncher is cause you use IE. If you used Firefox then you would have never needed Ad Muncher then you would have never had this problem which made you make this thread.

I posted general google links, not specific dates or versions. My point was that Firefox is not some godlike indestructable browser. Also you make the assumption that if I were to use Firefox, that I would also use the ad-blocking plugin instead of Ad Muncher. Who says I would like that ad-blocking plugin, maybe I would still use Ad Muncher either way... So in your hypothetical assumption when using Firefox, if I were to use Ad Muncher then the problem still remains.

Also the incompatibilities between NIS2009 and Ad Muncher weren't always there. I used NIS2009 from the very first beta, I also used Ad Muncher when NIS2009 was still in beta. I didn't have those problems back then, it's a recent problem. Ad Muncher didn't have any version bumps since then, NIS2009 did.

I'm not going to use Firefox, drop Ad Muncher and switch ad-blocking programs just because you tell me to. And to be honest, I think you're rather pushy in forcing your ideas upon me. I really don't like the tone in your posts, because it's condescending and pretentious. You made your point about Firefox several posts back, I got the message back then, no need to clearify it repeatedly.

I am not pushing anything just educating you. All will say is this. Why pay for a program that is offered free with Firefox.

Ad Muncher = $20

Ad Blocker Plus = $0

Hi Denniz,

Thanks for the additional information about Ad Muncher. We were able to reproduce this after installing Ad Muncher. Steps to repro:

1. Browse to http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=43

2. Click on the "Malware  problems & news" link.

Symantec Security Response is looking into it.

Thanks,

Shane.

I think that was the answer we were waiting for. let's keep all the browser discussions for other forums

Hi Denniz,

Security Response has identified the problem and a fix will be released with the next IPS Definitions update, currently scheduled for Thursday at the latest.

Best,

Shane.
