Hello, my first time in this forum and I really need your help!
I have run NIS2008 on two computers, an HP stationary and an Acer travelmate. A month ago I received an offer to upgrade to NIS2009, I accepted this on the HP, and it installed without a problem. A few days later my wife denied the offer on the old Acer. At that point the Acer stopped upgrading the virus definitions.
A week ago I renewed the subscription and upgraded it to NIS2009. When I tried to install it on the old Acer the entire file downloaded as expected, but when it tried to install I got a message (in Swedish) that the "source" or "creator" of the program is unknown, together with an OK-button. When I clicked the button the program shut down without installing. Same thing happened after uninstalling NIS2008 before trying. Finally I restored the computer to factory settings. This did not help, NIS2009 did the same thing. I figured something was seriously wrong with the hardware, and since I was about to buy a new computer anyway I did just that. I bought a rather powerful Acer Aspire (see specifications below).
After installing Vista and drivers on the new computer I downloaded NIS2009 and --- exactly the same thing happens as with the old Acer --- It will not install, because the source of the program is unknown! I have, of course, tried to download the file and run it from the computer, and at that point I get a message saying that "A problem has occured that has to be fixed: The installation file cannot be validated".
I have contacted Norton support on the chat, and they have given me a different link to download the file. It has not helped. I have also tried to use the trial version from symantecs website, but it will not install either.
What is wrong with my Acers??? Is the software not compatible with Acer computers?? Please give me some suggestions on this!
