I never had this problem with NIS2009 but after installing NIS2010 i cannot switch from my Nvidia motherboard GPU to my Nvidia 9800GTS when i need to boost performance and vice versa.
Instead i now get a warning box either from vista or the graphics driver saying i must shut down ccsvchst.exe(process id:3088) in order to proceed with switching graphics performance modes.
Unfortunately if i shut down this process then NIS is unusable until i log on again.
I also notice that if i log off and on again then i can switch gpu with NIS running in the background-it only seems to cause this problem if i open NIS during my windows session then it always blocks the gpu switching process.
I think this problem is directly related to NIS2010 as i dont have this issue with NIS2009 and also it makes no difference as to what Nvidia graphics driver i use this problem remains.I might also mention i am running a fully updated Vista SP2 installation.
Unfortunately this issue makes its impractical to continue using NIS2010-surely its worth symantec fixing this or at least fixing it for NIS2011.
I think this problem is fixable because until recently the Steam application from Valve also blocked GPU switching but this has been fixed in the new version of Steam released at the end of April-so Symantec its in your hands now....
