We have a WinXP Pro SP3 pc running NIS2010. After clicking on history the window comes up but the contents(history, alerts etc.) are never displayed. We were running 2009 and we were having the same problem. I incorrectly assumed the change to 2010 would solve this. Any ideas?
Hi jbc
Sorry to hear about your problem. How did you install NIS 2010? Are you running any other security programs on your computer?
I’m not sure on the install. I know we had 2009 and did the version upgrade to 2010, but I don’t know if 2009 was uninstalled by me or by the 2010 installer. Malwarebytes (free) and SuperAntispyware (free). I am running the same setup on this pc and it works right.
Hi jbc
Since you were having a problem with NIS 2009 and the same problem carried over to NIS 2010, I would try a clean install of NIS 2010. Please save your key and any saved passwords etc that may be in your current NIS2010. I would first uninstall NIS 2010 from add/remove and then run the Norton Removal Tool like 2 times with a reboot between each run of it. Please be aware though that the Norton Removal Tool will remove all Symantec products from your computer. You can then install a fresh copy of NIS2010 and it should pick up your key. If it doesn't, you will have a copy of the key since you saved it.
It's possible that you had a bad install of the program that carried over to the newer version. Try the fresh install and come back and let us know if the problem has been resolved. Thanks.

The longer your history, the much longer it takes to populate. How long have you tried to outwait it?
floplot - Will do on the clean install.
mijcar - at least an hour

Wow. Yes, you have a problem.
We'll wait for word on the clean install. If a basic clean install doesn't fix the problem you should try a true "clean install" in which after using NRT, you will need to find the NIS folders and remove them as they will probably contain the history files, which would be picked up again in the new installation. And if you do this, just to be safe, you should make sure you have a copy of your activation key.
In XP, those folders are in Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data>Norton>NIS_?????. Be careful not to delete a wrong folder, because other folders contain information on other Norton Products. If you only have NIS, then go ahead and delete the whole family.
I forgot to mention you will need to set your TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>VIEW to Show Hidden Files and Folders and to NOT hide System Folders and Files in order to find these things.
Will do.

Thanks for the heads up. All of my pc's are always set to show everything.
After a failed removal with Add/Remove, I ran the removal tool twice and restarted after each run. Following that I removed all Norton and Symantec folders. A clean NIS2010 install was performed. I can view history again. Thanks for all of the suggestions.
