NIS2010: Sonar Protection goes offline, error 3039.1 fix not resolves the issue

Around 24h ago, i've upgraded from 2009 to 2010 version of NIS on my WinXP SP3 installation, everything went well and NIS was working correctly for several hours.

Today, NIS suddenly displayed an error saying Sonar Protection is disabled. Clicking the "Fix now" button in NIS could not solve the problem. Then, a support window opened asked me to download a fix for the 3039.1 error. I've applied the solution proposed, but it also has not solved the problem.

Sonar Protection is keeping disabled.

I newer had this problem with NIS2009.

Same problem here. Upgraded to NIS 2010, everything was fine. After one day - Sonar protection not working (don't get any errors), and can 't be fixed.

Symantec anyone???

Uninstall your current installation using the Norton Removal Tool from here

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&ssfromlink=true&sprt_cid=1a13409b-29db-4397-a286-9dec49f8e252&seg=hho&ct=us&lg=en&docurl=20080828154508EN

Note that this will remove all Norton Products from your system.

Run the tool twice, rebooting after each run.

Then reinstall NIS 2010. The installation folder should still be on your desktop from before but if not then you can download NIS 2010 from here

www.symantec.com/nis10

Thanks for the prompt answer.

I was hoping for a less drastic solution but If nothing else works I will do it.

There is, in some installations, something hanging over that doesn't get cleanly upgraded and the only way we have found, thus far, to correct this is to do a complete uninstall and reinstall.

I did it.

It's ok now. We'll see if it keeps later.

Thanks again.

Thats great but monitor it for a few days and if still OK come back here to let us know and also mark the thread as solved so that others know your issue has been dealt with

Thanks

I will

Thanks

It is renatorichina who is the thread starter - and who can mark the thread solved - no one else can ;-)))

So far everything works, although computer is definitely slower than with NIS 2009,

mainly in checking incoming and outgoing mail.

Thanks.

Same error for one month now, no solution from Symantech. After an authomatic update from NIS 2009 to NIS 2010 SONIC protection stoped working. I've reinstalled NIS many times, I've even reinstalled Windos XP from scratch and the error continues.

Symantech support claims "it is a virus infection" and insists in charging me US$ 100. That's an absurd! First: it is not a virus, it is a program bug. Second: if I have to pay $100 to remove a virus NIS is supposed to block I'd rather buy another antivirus solution.

Any suggestion?
