When Norton Internet Security 2011 (specifically Norton's Intrusion Prevention module) is running together with Ad Muncher v4.92 I get real high DPC latency, which is noticeable by audio dropouts when I'm browsing the Internet with IE9 under Windows 7 SP1 while playing music in WinAmp. The program I use to check the DPC latency is called DPC Latency Checker from
While browsing the Internet the DPC values are through the roof... the problem only occurs when both Norton's Intrusion Prevention module in NIS2011 is active together with running Ad Muncher with filtering activated. When I disable Ad Muncher and leave Norton running the problem goes away, when I disable Norton and keep Ad Muncher running the problem also goes away.
What may be causing this? Also see the attached file with a screenshot of the DPC values.
I use admuncher 4.92 Build 32700/3687,together with NIS (WINDOWS 7 SP1 64 BIT) with intrusion detection enabled.I dont have winamp installed but have just played music videos on youtube through firefox and IE9 and dont get the high latency. There is a few spikes when the video first starts but it then settles down to under 500 us.I certainly dont get any audio dropouts.Possibly something to do with winamp?
UPDATE:
After playing more ,I can confirm latency spikes are higher with intrusion detection and admuncher filtering on (disabling one or the other results in lower latcency) ,when browsing. It is not enough on my machine to cause any audio dropouts though on a 4 meg broadband line.
