NIS2012 crashing with changes in firewall

HI graemeg,

Are you also experiencing this problem?  So far, there has been only this one report of the issue.  Most users do not add programs to the Program Control list, and if they do, it would be unusual for them to add as many as the OP in this thread has done.

I too am having the same problem. Have reported this in another thread. As soon as I try to change a programs access I get the same error and NIS quits

The two threads concerning this issue have been brought to Symantec's attention.

I have been using NIS 2011 again. I have a lot more firewall entries than before but not a single problem with the current setup. NIS 2011 “feels” relatively lighter and smoother to operate. The irony is I was given two packages of NIS 2012 this December. Well, well…

For those of you who are still experiencing this problem, please contact me (my email address is on my profile) if you're willing to gather some info for us. Thanks.

I always have and always will configure my firewall manually.

And NO, with well over 175 enties in each of 5 or 6 machines.  No.  I did not pay good money to spend that amount of MY TIME "reverting" to a previous version.

Solution requested.

Thank You!!

Hello Mark,

Thank you for contacting Norton support.

I understand from your email that your Norton Internet Security program crashes, while selecting a DLL file. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

And, as we know, reinstalling does not fix this issue.  Will someone from the right hand please tell the left hand this??

I am not trying to be difficult, but what I am requesting is an update.  A fix.  I have 6 computers here!  I am NOT about to be forced to do this for softeware THAT I HAVE PAID FOR.

Moved to own thread for better exposure.

gwm:

Please refer to my experiences in reinstalling NIS 2012 (following the advices here, at least TWICE) in the earlier posts of this thread.

Unless the given link lets you download a new update with the right fix (which you don't really know, I presume), you will probably just end up even angrier and more frustrated like I was, because, when the number of your entries in the firewall hits the mark AGAIN, NIS 2012 will crash AGAIN. Then, you will have to install NIS AGAIN and RE-ENTER each of the 100+ firewall entries MANUALLY. It seems to me that the prevailing logic is: Because not everybody is complaining about this problem with NIS 2012, then your system must be the cause of your problem. You just keep re-installing NIS 2012 until your system gets it right.

Regarding "Welcome to Norton Support. We do have a fix for this issue but has to be done by an advanced technician. I would request you to reply to this email with the following details so that we can arrange callback to you."

Wow! Sounds like a guru of the advanced order would like to teach the sacred mantra to you personally because it is forbidden to be exposed to the public.

And do this with SIX computers??????

Yes, imagine that.

I was mad having to manually input 100+ firewall entries into ONE computer everytime I reinstalled. Now, imagine you having to do the same with SIX computers. And, apparently, there is no explicit guarantee from Symantec that the NIS 2012 you will download and install from the provided link will not show the same problem AGAIN.

I guess they consider our application of the NIS (with 100+ firewall entries) uncommon. And because there are only a handful of us voicing out the problem, we are the exceptional cases. Therefore, we have to keep reinstaling NIS 2012 until we learn our lesson and realize that Oh! The problem does not actually exist!  You can also simply choose not to add more entries into the firewall, install NIS 2011 instead, or talk to their guru-of-the-advanced-order in private.

"guru-of-the-advanced-order"

Why not just write the "guru-of-the-advanced-order" instructions here?

Another week has passed.
