I'm very happy with NIS2012 but it takes ages to start up.. while starting up my PC and when I see my wallpaper as background and I clcik on the Norton icon it takes very long when I see the main screen, why is that, I have a very fast PC, I used ESET before Norton and that one was way quicker while starting up PC ?
The normal uninstall can leave behind stuff that interferes with a subsequent installation of something different and so most security programs have special tools you can download to clean up completely.
Here are ESETs own instructions for reinstalling so just follow the steps given when you click on the
Uninstall your existing ESET security product
Don't chose and download the new installation file but look for those folders mentioned and remove them if they are still there.
Let us know how you get on and we can look at other things you may be able to do.

Hi,
Have you run ESET on this system before you switched to NIS? How did you remove that program? Most of the better security programs have specific removal tools that should be run to be sure that all of the bits and bytes of that program have been removed before installing a different/new security program.
Looking at the information on the program I would expect conflicts if it has not been properly removed.
The Boot Time Protection feature provides an earlier load for some of Norton's protections, but this comes at the cost of a slower Windows startup time. In weighing the benefits and drawbacks for the default setting, the designers opted to let a fast startup take precedence over an early loading of Norton. The feature is strictly a matter of user preference, and it is probably fair to say that more users would complain about longer startup times, than about when Norton drivers load. Hence, the default is "Off."
I did a clean install of my OS W7 Ultimate and installed NIS2011 NL, after that installed NIS2012 over my 2011 version, maybe I said it wrong, my PC starts up fast but when I see my wallpaper and clcik on the NIS2012 icon it takes some time to open, never had this with NIS2011 though...

Have you changed your Boot Time Protection setting to 'Normal' or 'Aggressive', as I mentioned earlier? You need to choose one of these options as there is a time delay built into the 'Off' setting. On fast PCs, the 'Off' setting presents the same symptoms that you are describing. Changing this setting to one of the options above will resolve the issue.

What you may be seeing ferenzzz is the following:
You have a new installation of NIS 2012
A new installation does a full system scan as soon as it can and that uses resources
Since the Norton screen when it opens up tells you if you are Safe or not, it may be waiting until it has updated its scan.
Once a full system scan has been completed and all the reputation information updated there are fewer files to be checked, even on a full system scan since Norton knows if files are new or changed and only rechecks them so things happen more quickly.
??????
When you "takes some time" roughly what are you referring to? seconds, minutes .... ?
BTW << installed NIS2011 NL >> means the Netherlands version? Was the 2012 also the NL version?
When you say "installed over" did you use the Update Center or did you download the full installation file and if so from where?
I have Win 7 64-bit Ultimate SP1 and have set boot time startup to Agressive. This does take longer, several seconds longer - but I think the tradeoff is worth it. You can try setting it yo Normal - might save a bit in boot time, but I would not suggest setting it to Off.
Thanks for letting us know -- Norton has a pretty good idea of how likely you are to get infected between shutting down the PC and then restarting and getting Windows finished installing itself and it does take precautions during the early stages.
I have been annoyed by this ever since updating to NIS 2012. Another thing that often happens during the time the OP cites between startup and when the NIS main screen can be seen is that if you open your browser, ID Safe will not fill logins in until you restart the browser.
IMO this is a very counter intuitive setting - who'd a thunk that being set to off would cause a start up slowdown as opposed to being set to normal or aggressive???
