NMS became unavailable

I live in Brazil and I upgraded to full version of NMS on 08/12/2011. Then my android phone had a problem and I had to buy a new one ( a Samsung Galaxy S II). It was easy to re-install all my apps, but NMS. I discovered it got unavailable for download here in Brazil. It is not available in Android Market. It even disappeared from My Apps list. Now I have an order number and running a Lite version that keeps offering to upgrade again to full version. I contacted Norton chat support and was told they would give me an international phone call to solve my problem. Unacceptable.

How should I proceed?

Hi, Mctitan,

The issue here is that due principally to currency conversion issues in the Android Market, NMS is having to be rolled back out into countries that had been able to access it when it was free. By virtue of you having a recorded install of the Beta on your original phone, Norton was able to "grandfather" you and install the update that gave you Lite. Then you bought your subscription for the full version using what's called an "in-app transaction."

When your phone died, and you got a replacement, your new phone didn't have the Beta on it. So when you connect to Android Market, and Google checks to see if you're able to purchase NMS, they see you're not in one of the countries their currency conversion issue has been resolved for--so they don't present you with the option.

PapauZ is right: if you go back to the folks at Live Chat and explain the above, as long as you can give them a proof-of-purchase (order number, etc.) for a full license they should be able to square you away with an activation code; once you've got that, you can download the APK that he pointed you to, and activate it the way you used to have to do for the Beta (only once you do, you'll be good for a year, not just 22 days!) Note that to install the APK, you will have to temporarily check the box to allow installation of apps from "unknown" (non-Market) sources.

Sorry this is being so frustrating. Norton is working hard to get the currency issue resolved, and the list of countries from which NMS can be downloaded from Market is growing all the time.

Thanks so much.

The problem was solved as you said. I contacted chat support and within 24 hours I received an international call.

They provided an activation code.

I suggested an activation code should be automatically be sent to registered email, even if the purchase is made through Android Market. This would save customers so much annoyance.

Anyway, I appreciated so much your help.

Glad to hear you got a decent resolution! Doing it by international phone call seems odd to me too; in my experience they generally provide the code right in the Chat session, or at worst by PM to your Forums account.

It's also worth highlighting for Team NMS that the international phone call approach seems to be potentially confusing, since in retrospect that appears to be what you were offered in the beginning, but it was sufficiently unclear what they were meaning to do that they could have lost a customer right there.

For you, of course, the main thing is that you're back in business with your Norton protection; enjoy! :smileyhappy:
