Today I upgraded to NIS 2008 after my previous NIS subscription expired. I also installed the Ad-On pack for NIS 2008. I was surprised to see banner ads and animated ads on my screen after the installation.
I just learned from NIS Technical Support that NIS 2008 does not have the Ad Blocker feature. Why was this discontinued? What are my options now that I've paid for NIS 2008 specifically to receive Ad Blocking capability that does not exist?
Thanks, in advance, for your response.
i like the one that comes with the google toolbar for ie, but ff has a plug-in called ad-block plus (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865) that allows for pretty comprehensive tuning and plenty of configuration. if you use ff, i highly recommend it.

I liked the ad blocker in 2007, block all ads and even the ones that run on programs in background, like desktop weather. I can’t find one that does that now, don’t like adaware.
All mayor webbrowsers have a good ad -and pop up blocker these days.

Please tell me where it is in Internet Explorer – I’ve used IE6, IE7 and IE8 Beta and I’ve not seen it.
There is a third party add-on that can provide it but I’d like to know if it is in fact built into Internet Explorer.
I agree with you. I’ve used IE7Pro that is a third party add-on (Google on the name) and it works but is more complex to set up and includes so many other features that I regard it as over-kill when all I want is the ad-blocking that the earlier add-on provided.

Can you point me to this? I've used the Google Toolbar with IE for ages and I don't find ad-blocking in it. It offers Pop-Up blocking but for practical purposes that is not the same.
The Norton ad-blocker worked within a webpage to block images from advertising sources even within the window you are using, whereas even Google says its PopUp blocker does not block, for example, most flash ads since they come up in a window.
I suugest that you down load FireFox and then down load Adblock Plus.
Otherwise you can try this http://www.admuncher.com/
This is what ticks me off about Symantec; they are always removing useful programs then replacing them with CRAP or NO replacement at all! If you ever-used Norton System Works, Norton System Works Professional, or Norton System Works Premier, there was a really useful program in there that was called Norton Clean Sweep! This was GREAT for uninstalling programs that there was NO uninstall for! It was neat, and sweet but the idiots took them away! If I could find anything I could trust like Norton I think I would be moving away!

NSW2008 has an three options to "Clean up your PC"
In addition, it has "erase unwanted data" which totally wipes your PC. Wipe Info erases files or folders from your hard disk so that they cannot be recovered. Wipe Info can also wipe the free space on your hard disk.
I do agree however, that the Ad-on pack should still include an option to use Ad-blocker
You are so right that you must be really careful when using utilities that you are unfamiliar with! Starting the wrong one can wipe out your hard drive or remove folders that are needed to run Windows! This is so different then the Cleansweep program because if you uninstalled a program needed by Windows you could always do the undo feature in Norton Cleansweep that would put things back to where they were before the mistake was made! I agree the Ad-on pack shouldn’t have the Ad-Pop Up Blocker; it should have been included with the Internet Security when it was installed! The folks at Symantec have left us in a very vulnerable position!
