I "woke" my PC from "sleep" this morning and manually ran Liveupdate for my NIS 2012. Liveupdate downloaded and installed 9 updates. I ran it once more and it said there were no more updates to be installed. I then ran a quickscan (which took forever) and I noticed that it didn't detect any cookies, so I ran it again, still no cookies discovered or removed. So I surfed around the internet (and also noticed that the Norton Toolbar has disappeared in my Firefox 19) and then ran the scan again, still no cookies.
I can't believe that the lack of cookie detection (as well as the missing Norton Toolbar) is not a result of something Symantec/Norton downloaded with the update this morning since everything was working fine yesterday. I've rebooted the PC 3 times now and reran liveupdate multiple times.
Just for fun while I was composing this email I ran Liveupdate a couple more times and then reran a quickscan, now, all of a sudden NIS is detecting and removing cookies (though still no Norton Toolbar in Firefox 19)
