I have recently installed 360 v5 on my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop. Since installing, the computer failed to boot with an error message to do with the root menu. However, I had this problem fixed this week and Windows xp was reloaded. I have installed 360 again and now am unable to access the internet using my mobile data usb. I am pretty clueless about computer stuff, but thought it would be worth asking on here to find out what I need to do to enable a connection whilst keeping 360 running if this is possible? Thanks for your help.
What version of Norton are you running now? Look under Help & Support> about. Also, what service pack or packs have you got?
Do you have any other security or antimalware software? What differences in operating system and service packs exist between your machines? Are you networking the computers? If so which one is the host?
I am running Norton Internet Security 2009, version 16.5.0.135. Are you asking about windows SP? I am on SP3.
I am not running any other security or malware products. The problem pc is Windows XP. My other pc is Vista, but I only use it once in awhile. Both are up to date with Microsoft critical updates and Norton updates. The computers are networked to the same modem, but I don't really share files between them. I'm not sure which 'is the host'. They run independently. They are both laptops.
I should mention that the problem occurs not only at home, but also when I am travelling and connecting (or not connecting).
We’ll have to wait for a networking member. I suspect that Norton is not so much the problem as some of the networking settings. With my system, the wired computer is the host for the wireless computer. The settings were pretty much default, but there are a considerable number of settings choices at the ISP level. Are you on a specific plan to allow more than one computer?
I have a 2 wire home portal from ATT. It has multiple ethernet ports and also wireless. As I said, the problem also occurs when I take my laptop on the road. I hardwire into the company network or use my wireless there, and same problem. I can connect to the internet sometimes, but if I shut down or restart, I can no longer connect.
Hello all, I do not mean to intrude on this particular thread but I am having a similar problem.
I have installed Norton Internet and it is a 2004 version and every thing seemed fine until I scanned my computer and turned every thing but the parental control on. Now I can not access the Internet unless Norton is disabled witch defeats the whole purpose of having it! Please help!!!
:O 2004 version
How much ur subscription left?
Really if u have less than get 09 version. u don't kno what u r missing.
not sure, I just restored my computer due to a virus I got on Mon. and it was on on of my boot cds, (WinFast), So really I have no idea!
@ Leannasue:
Can you have a look in history and see if there are any entries blocking your 2-wire. If it is like mine it should be a 127.0.0. something
When it won't connect, sometimes it fixes it if you go to start>run>cmd>ipconfig release and then ipconfig renew.
@dragonfly0006
You really should update to NIS 2009. It is well worth the money. You are missing out on much needed security.
You can try the same suggestion as above.
I have also specifically allowed only my 2-wire and my isp addresses in the UPNP Discovery (shared networks) which seemed to help a couple of minor connection issues.
We could really use a networking pro here, though. Feel free to step in anybody.
Hi -
Perhaps Yogesh could help.
I will try what you suggested...Thank you, I will upgrade but it is not possible at this time!
I will let you know if this works out!
Got it working!!!
Thanks all!
Ok, I am the original poster, and my problem is not solved. Just wanted to make that clear. Thanks for suggestions.
So back to the same questions:
Does any information show under history> Firewall and Internet connections. That should point us in the right direction.
leannasue,
Before we go down this route can you post screen shots? That is, if we ask for any information can do you know how to post captures of the information from your computer screen to this forum?
delphinium-- yes, there is a lot of info in history. I don't know what is pertininent. What about 'Rule 'Default Block SSDP' blocked communication'?
dbrisendine- I know how to use 'print scrn' and paste into Word. Not sure how to post this to the forum.
I appreciate your help.
Hi leannasue -
I noticed your post.
While I really don't want to make you go through this again, it might be best so we can help troubleshoot your problem.
Try this.
Use the Norton Removal Tool and remove NIS - then reboot - then run it again and reboot -
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Now re-install NIS 2009 from this link -
http://www.symantec.com/redirects/norton/norton_com/nis09/
You will need your Product Key for the reinstall.
Then test.
Let us know here.
Thanks,
Compumind
leannasue,
Do you use VPN connections or any SSL type network connections (for example, to your company networks from home) by any chance?
Hi -
That's a good question, too!
I was kind of thinking about that - and if specific rules need to be created.
Compumind
Compumind-- I'll try removing the software tonight when I have time. Thanks
Dbrisendine-- Yes, I use VPN to connect for work most days.
