Dears Norton Community,
I have enabled the Norton Security Service, on my Android mobile, I got a notification that this will affect encryption (my mobile is encrypted).
The problem that my mobile is no more asking for the PIN after restarting it, although the encryption is enabled under the Phone settings.
I tried to disable the service and uninstalling Norton Mobile Security with no luck.
Could you please advise how can I enable the PIN again upon starting the mobile?
My mobile Details are as per the below:
- Mobile Model: HTC One M9
- Android Version is: 7.0
Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure where that leaves your Norton protection. Norton uses the device administrator to help monitor features on the device. It also helps stop someone who may find your phone from uninstalling NMS if they do not know about that setting. It also allows NMS to erase the phone data and lock the screen remotely in case the device is lost.
You could try going to the Mobile Security web site and testing the lock command with the device encryption enabled as you have it now. If you can, also try to lock using the SMS commands.

Can you try setting the Norton admin again, then seeing if you can still reset the Secure Startup setting again.
Thank you so much Peter for your feedback.
Seems that Norton Security Service disables something called "Secure startup", I did the below to re-enable it again:
- Disable Norton Security Service (under Settings --> Accessibility)
- Reset the mobile unlock PIN (Settings --> Security --> Smart Lock, choose the screen lock method, once you enter this screen you will get a notification to renable the 'Secure Startup").
Then I restarted the device, and I am seeing the decrypt screen again :)
I haven't tried to keep Norton Security Service enabled.
So, the problem has been sorted out :)
Have a read through this thread. It covers your issue. https://community.norton.com/en/comment/7207121#comment-7207121
Sorry I did not think to link to the information on the encryption. But if I remember correctly, the device will still be encrypted, you just do not need to enter the encryption PIN to access the device. You should still be able to set up a screen lock PIN, so the device would still be protected.
