Norton Family on desktop computers is typically updated automatically as part of your main Norton security software suite.

For the Windows application, it’s recommended to download the latest version from the Norton website and reinstall it over the existing version, or use the built-in update features if available through the main Norton Security product.

  1. Go to the Norton Portal: Sign in to your account at my.Norton.com.
  2. Download the Latest Version: Navigate to the Parental Controls section, select the child’s profile/device, and find the option to download the latest installer.
  3. Run the Installer: Run the downloaded file. The Norton Download Manager will automatically handle the installation process and ensure you have the most current version. You may need to follow on-screen prompts, which could include agreeing to the license agreement.
  4. Reinstallation (If issues arise): If you encounter problems, Norton recommends using the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool (NRnR) after first uninstalling Norton Family, and then installing the fresh version from the portal.
  5. Enable Browser Extensions: After updating, ensure the Norton Family browser extension is enabled for all browsers your child uses (Chrome, Edge, Firefox).

Note: The Norton Family app itself handles its updates somewhat automatically. If you have the full Norton security product installed on a PC, running LiveUpdate within that product can also help keep all components, including Family, up to date.

Could you please try the below steps to update Norton Family to the latest version.

  1. On the child device, open any browser and go to family.norton.com and sign-in as a parent.

  2. Click on the respective child name and click on “Add Device”

  3. Click on “Add New Device" and Choose the option to mention that it is the child device and continue.

  4. Click on the “Download” button. Once download is completed, install the downloaded Norton Family Installer. This will update the Norton Family to the latest version.
