I have Ghost 12 on several machines and it is slowly or completely dying on all. On my main machine, backups to an external USB drive go to 94% or 96% and just hang. Hitting "cancel" starts the cancelling, but that hangs, too. I have to reboot or manually stop the Ghost services. This also means I cannot schedule backups for all partitions and walk away. Ghost will never finish the first partition.
If I double click on the ghost image file after I reboot or restart the Ghost service, Restore opens normally, asks for my password, and I can see my files. They look ok, but I have no confidence that if I crashed (particularly my boot partition), I could fully restore.
On one machine, Ghost starts with no error message but simply does nothing when I try to start a backup. All machines have Windows XP Pro. I've tried with a Simpletech and a Passport USB drive. I've tried doing a cleanup (including the registry) first with ccCleaner. I've tried blocking Internet with ZoneAlarm and disabling Norton Antivirus Autoprotect. None of these steps made any difference.
When I first bought and installed Ghost, it was working fine. Well, incremental backup never really worked. Like others on this board, I found it took so many hours that it was many times faster to just create a new restore point.
Any suggestions, other than spending more money on new software?
Thanks.
