NOF was working fine until about 2 weeks ago. It now doesn't seem to be monitoring any internet activity. All the setup seems okay. I just can't work out why it's not monitoring anything.
I haven't changed anything on the account. It shows both children are being monitored. However, no web activity is shown at all. The only thing I've done is put NOF onto my Macbook Air and maybe in doing this it's stopped monitoring the main computer? I really am not very computer savvy so feeling a bit confused/lost about it all. Really want to get it working again. Thanks.
Hi SR41,
Are you still experiencing the issue? Have you tried to uninstall/reinstall Norton Safety Minder on the PC to see if it helps? All the house rules settings are saved on the NOF severs, so you don't have to reset them after you reinstall NSM on the PC.
Thanks,
Katie
Hi again Katie
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Norton. The problem has not resolved. I don't know what else I can do.
SR41,
What security product(s) do you have on the PC?
You mentioned you put "NOF onto my Macbook Air". This shouldn't make any difference, so currently the program doesn't track any internet activity for both PC and the Macbook?
Thanks,
Katie
Hi there
I don't have anything extra security-wise on the PC - just the usual Firewall. I haven't installed anything extra or done anything differently prior to NOF not working properly.
That is correct that it doesn't track any internet activity for the PC or the Macbook. On my desktop, when I click the Norton symbol at the top right it's telling me that the computer is NOT being monitored by Norton. When I check my settings, they all seem to be as they should be. Am I missing something??
Hi SR41,
In your previous post, you mentioned "It shows both children are being monitored", and the other post saying "telling me that the computer is NOT being monitored by Norton".
It probably means either you misstated one of the statements, or the child's account is NOT associated with his/her profile online correctly. Please see the link below for details.

NOF was working fine until about 2 weeks ago. It now doesn't seem to be monitoring any internet activity. All the setup seems okay. I just can't work out why it's not monitoring anything.
Can you confirm that there is not activity by executing some search terms on google, and perhaps visiting a site that would be blocked to ensure that the program is working correctly on the computer that you have installed it on?
Thanks,
I have already done this. It seems that there is no monitoring going on at all. The message at the top of my desktop (when I highlight the Norton symbol) says that this computer is NOT being monitored. When I go to my settings in NOF, everything is set up as I think it should be. Clearly, something isn't right. All I can think is that I will uninstall it completely and reinstall again and see if that fixes the problem.
If the progam is stating that the account is not being monitoried, that's a strong indicator that the accounts on the mac itself, have not been associated with the children in the NOF family. Can you review your child's profile and see if the accounts are correctly mapped on the child's settings on the website?
Thanks,
Not sure exactly how to do that. When I go into my child's Profile, it says "We've detected 1 computer running Norton Safety Minder. On each computer, please select which account (child's name) uses".
It has a green tick then against my child's name saying "child" is protected! Isn't this the place where it shows how my child logs on. It looks like it's recognising their logon name according to the Mac.
At the top of that page, it shows that Norton Safety Minder Supervision is ticked On.
I'm having the same problem- (MacBook running Lion). Account is associated correctly (it shows that she is associated to one machine - her Mac- and the Mac shows that it is currently being monitored. When I try to update the House Rules it continues to update for at least an hour (I gave up at that point) and it shows nothing in the monitoring history. I'm sure our issues are similar and I hope a solution can be found quickly.
Our issues certainly sound similar and I'm quite bamboozled!! What I don't understand is why the problem has suddenly occurred after it's been working perfectly for 2 years. It's not like I changed anything.
That does sound strange! I've tried for hours to get this to work and still nothing. I'm a tech director at a school with a 1:1 laptop program and have about 600 families looking for something to help monitor their kids- if the tech director can't get it up and running without a problem I'm struggling with suggesting it to any of our parents!
Hi UncleSpud,
What browser(s) are used on the Mac by the monitored child?
Thanks,
Katie
I found another post explaining how Safari is not supported so I switched over to Firefox. I then reinstalled NOF from the Administrator account (instead of from the child account with elevated privleges) and it has started to work.
I also noticed that there are two installers for Mac- one for 10.6.8 and one for Lion. It would seem easy for a user to install the incorrect one- a simple installer script to determine OS and then installing the correct version seems like it might help to eleminate any confusoin. Also, is there any word on when Safari will be supported? The lack of support for Safari will be a huge hurdle for more "inexperienced" users so trying to explain the work around will be useless.
Hi UncleSpud,
Thanks for the update.
It's good that you noticed we have different updates of Norton Safety Minder for different versions of Mac. When trying to download Norton Safety Minder from the download link on the NOF website to a Mac machine, the program automatically detects the version of the Mac OS and download the correct version for Mac 10.6 or Lion. Users don't need to check the versions to download the correct version.
Thanks,
Katie
