NOF seems to block an application on PC

Is that crazy or true?

 

Okay have you ever heard of the website/program called "Raptr"??  Basically Raptr is an application when launched can keep track of your gaming playing time, it then will compare against your friends' profile as well.  Basically the more you play a specific game, the more you can also earn promotional discounts.  For instance.  (keep in mind this is purely an example, not a legit situation).  1hr of Diablo 3 grants you nothing, however 6hrs of gameplay could grant you a 20% off coupon for a mouse courtesy of Raptr.com   Or another example (again example).  A certain # of hours of gameplay grants you a beta access code to test out a new game thats about to be released.  So Raptr.com is about keeping your gameplay stats, comparing against friends, and also is cross platform your XBox, Playstation Network and Steam Accounts all go hand in hand using a client that also allows you to talk as well to each other.

 

Moving on.....when I launch the Raptr.exe application the program logs me into the various areas I have registered.  For example if I chose to add my PSN account it will log me in and see what friends I have online, if I chose to add my Steam acct, it will log me into their service and see what friends are playing.  But most importantly it will log me into the Raptr account/service in order to keep track of my gametime and such.

 

However one thing I noticed is that by having Norton Safety Minder, aka Norton Online Family, my Raptr account will not log in, it says "connection error" now i know for fact it has to do with NOF because down near my clock is the NOF icon, I disabled NOF and then launched the Raptr application and voila, it connected within a split second.  I rebooted PC, NOF was re enabled, I tried launching Raptr app and it wouldnt connect, I immediately disabled NOF and relaunched Raptr app and again within a split second it connected.

 

Now within the settings I have enabled Ratpr.com to be an 'approved site' to visit, however for some odd reason the NOF application and the Raptr.exe application seems to be in conflict.


I'm going to hit submit/post this, and will test this a couple more times, if there is inconsistency I'll repost but if I dont repost consider that there still is an underlining issue that I dont know how to fix.

Thanks for the post.   You said "Now within the settings I have enabled Ratpr.com to be an 'approved site' to visit..".  Are you saying with the website on the allowed list, you are still experiencing the issue?  If so, what other URL(s)  get blocked (indicated in red) at Activity -> Web online around the time that you see the "connection error"?

Well upon signing in it gives me an alert page; nothing pertaining to Raptr is there.

 

When I clicked the Web tab and click "questionable activity" nothing pertaining to Raptr (within the last 7 days) is listed

 

When I check my email for questionable activity, at least today (when trying to access the app) nothing is listed pertaining to Raptr

 

LOL I'm at a standstill.

 

Now within the Application itself it created 3 Firewall entries that I had to have Symantec Allow, would any of those help?  If not then I'm not sure what else to do :(

Oh and prior to even installing the application; Norton Online Family/Safety Minder allowed me to visit Raptr.com without any issues anyways.  I allowed the website JUST IN CASE that was the issue.  Adding it had no effect when launching the app so; I dont know

Hi ltolman,

 

What Operating System is running on the PC?

 

Do you have Java SE 7 installed on the machine?  You should be able to check it at Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs if  you have Windows XP.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit.

 

And no, I currently have Java 6 Update 21.  Could that be it?  I will perform an update, reboot PC and such and test it out.  I'll get back to ya

Downloaded Update, Update Installed, Rebooted PC, Verified Update (via Add/Remove Programs)

 

Using Java 6 Update 21 and Java 7 Update 5 + JavaFX 2.1.1

 

Launched raptr, connection error; manually connected I'm online, YAY...Exited app

 

Launched raptr, connection error, manually connect, nope; manual connect; YES I'm online (2 Manual Attempts, 1 Auto Fail), Exited app

 

Launched app, connection error, 4 Manual Attempts=FAIL, exited app

 

Disabled NOF; launched app, split second I'm connected, exited

 

Launched app, split second I'm connected, exited

 

Enabled NOF, launched app; connection error, manual connection=FAIL

 

Disabled NOF (Norton Online Family), launched app, split second both connected.

 

 

Conjecture?  NOF still has conflict with Raptr's App, even with Java 7 installed

Any news yet? 

 

I have NOF enabled and am launching the app right now but theres a "long connecting" message at the moment; nope now "connection error"

 

After disabling NOF; service became avail online right away

 

In the meantime; I'm still remembering to disable NOF before I launch Raptr to play ANY games on PC
