Noron 360 sometimes doesn't start on Windows 8 when starting up after a shutdown!

Hi,

I have a desktop computer running Norton 360 Premier Edition version 20.4.0.44 (current) with latest virus definitions on Microsoft Windows 8 Professional with Media Center. Norton 360 sometimes fails to start on Windows 8 when starting up after a shutdown.

Ever since I first installed the new 2013 "version-less" version of Norton 360 on Windows 8, it sometimes fails to start when starting up after a shutdown and I have not bothered to seek support for this matter as I believed that Symantec or Microsoft might be aware of the problem and that an update or patch would soon be available. Norton 360 prompted me to apply a new patch today, and after applying the patch, I realised that the version changed from version 20.3.0.36 to version 20.4.0.44. Furthermore, I also noticed that the aforesaid problem with Norton 360 still persists, and if my memory serves me right, Norton 360 sometimes also fails to start after resuming from hibernation. I usually put the computer to sleep and I never have this problem when resuming from hybrid sleep. To have Norton 360 up and running again, I usually just give the computer a restart.

I believe that the "fast start-up" feature in Windows 8 power options are causing Norton 360 from sometimes failing to start. I have not noticed this problem on computers running Windows XP or Windows 7. If either Symantec or Microsoft can come up with a fix to this problem without having to turn off the fast start-up feature in Windows 8, I would be very grateful!

Kind regards,

Arthur Durand

Hi ArthurDurand

You might like to try setting boot time to aggressive by clicking the Norton icon, click settings, click computer, click computer scan set enable boot time protection to aggressive, click apply, click ok, close all programmes and restart the computer.

The above describe the task using NIS.

In Norton 360 the setting intesec is referring to is located in Settings > Antivirus > Automatic Protection tab.
