Norton 12.6 AV, OSX 10.8.5 symdeamon pegging CPU utilization

I can't see to figure out why this is happening, but symdeamon is definitely using between 99 and 100% of CPU - even when no apps running and background scans disabled.

If I disable norton and then renable the prob goes away for a while, but then returns.  I have tried restarting with no apps running and prob still exists.

I have an activity monitor process sample if that helps.  Just need to know how to resolve.  Thanks.

Thanks,

Dave

Please go ahead and post the activity-monitor sample here and see what Symantec's engineers have to say. In addition, do you have any networked drives?

Thank you.

Here's the sample attached:

No active mapped network drives...

A couple things you could check/try:

1) Do you have the latest virus definitions?  The date is shown in the Virus Defintions Info window

2) Does this usage start immediately after a reboot, or only after a while?

3) You may want to see if disabling idle scans or disabling scan of compressed files during idle scan makes any difference
